- October 2026: National Heat Pump Rebate (new). Ottawa announced a $2 billion rebate for electric heat pumps: up to $10,000 for households below the median income and $2,000 for other eligible homeowners. Launch is expected in early 2027, and installs from November 1, 2026 can apply once it opens. Income line, eligible homes and fuels are not published yet; Ottawa says details come on November 1, 2026. Source
- 2026: RetrofitWR (Region of Waterloo) (new). Launched spring 2026: free energy coaching across Waterloo Region, and loans up to $40,000 at 2.5% for GrandBridge Energy customers. Source
- 2026: Home Renovation Savings: thermostat and attic (raised). The smart thermostat rebate rose to $125 (from $100) and the no-assessment attic insulation rebate to $1,250 (from $1,000). Source
- December 2025: Canada Greener Homes Grant (ended). The last day to submit documents was December 31, 2025. The Greener Homes Loan stopped taking applications October 1, 2025. Source

This is the province-wide backbone: HRSP runs the same programs whatever Ontario city you're in — five categories need no home energy assessment at all, just an eligibility form and a participating contractor. A deeper assessment-required tier pays more for insulation, windows, and air sealing if you're doing a bigger retrofit. HRSP heat pump rebate
Depends what fuel you're switching from: gas customers get up to $2,000 (air-source) or $3,000 (ground-source); switching from electric, oil, propane, or wood gets up to $7,500 (air-source) or $12,000 (ground-source). Province-wide, same in every Ontario city.
HRSP solar rebate
$1,000/kW, capped at 50% of cost. Combined with battery, a typical Toronto household can net up to $10,000 for solar + battery together. You choose this or net metering, not both.
HRSP battery storage rebate
$300/kWh, capped at 50% of cost. Stacks with the solar rebate above.
Attic insulation (no-assessment path)
Scales with starting R-value: up to $1,250 from ≤R-12, $1,000 from R-12–25, $800 from R-25–35. Cathedral ceiling/flat roof up to $750.
Exterior wall / foundation / crawlspace (assessment-required)
Exterior wall to at least R-20, up to $3,600. Plus foundation/basement wall up to $1,500, crawlspace up to $2,400, and exposed floor $300 as separate measures — needs a before/after energy assessment ($600, refunded as a rebate) plus 2+ qualifying upgrades.
Heat pump water heater rebate
Replaces a gas, electric, or oil tank. Part of the assessment-required tier.
Windows & doors rebate
Per rough opening replaced with an eligible ENERGY STAR window or door. Part of the assessment-required tier.
No direct HRSP rebate — Toronto HELP loan instead
There's no HRSP cash rebate for a home EV charger. In Toronto, a Level 2 charger install is an eligible expense under the City's $125,000 HELP loan program instead.
Smart thermostat rebate
Instant or mail-in. Eligible brands include ecobee, Nest, Honeywell, Mysa, and Sinopé.
Toronto homeowners also have the City's own HELP loan — up to $125,000, repaid through your property tax bill — which stacks on top of every rebate above rather than replacing it. See your city page for the exact local breakdown.

What is Ontario's Home Renovation Savings Program?
The Home Renovation Savings Program (HRSP) is Ontario's main home-energy rebate program, run through participating utilities. It covers heat pumps ($2,000-$12,000 depending on your current fuel), solar (up to $5,000), battery storage (up to $5,000), insulation, windows, water heaters, and smart thermostats. Some upgrades need no home energy assessment; others require one plus at least two qualifying measures.
How much does a heat pump rebate cover in Ontario?
It depends on what you're switching from. Gas customers get up to $2,000 for an air-source heat pump or $3,000 for ground-source. Switching from electric, oil, propane, or wood gets up to $7,500 (air-source) or up to $12,000 (ground-source).
Which Ontario cities are covered by HomePowerRebate?

Is there an EV charger rebate in Ontario?
There's no direct HRSP cash rebate for a home EV charger. In Toronto, a Level 2 charger install is an eligible expense under the City's HELP loan program instead.
What happened to the federal Greener Homes loan?
The federal Canada Greener Homes Loan closed to new applicants on October 1, 2025. It's not coming back in its old form. The province-wide HRSP rebates above are what's actually available in 2026 — they're grants, not loans, so there's nothing to repay.
Is this really free for homeowners?
Yes. You don't pay HomePowerRebate anything. Installers don't pay us either, and no one can pay to rank higher.
