Cambridge is an Eversource city, so Mass Save's full list of offers applies here. Much of Cambridge housing is condos and two- or three-family homes. Heat pump and insulation work often needs a condo association vote or every owner's sign-off. Get that in writing before you book a contractor. Mass Save runs separate assessment paths for renters, for landlords of 1–4 units, and for buildings with 5 or more units. Pick the right one when you call 866-527-7283.
One border to know: Belmont, right next door, runs the Belmont Municipal Light Department. Belmont homes aren't in Mass Save's electric programs and use Belmont's own rebates and the state's 0% MLP Z-Loan instead. If you're comparing notes with a neighbour across the line, that's why your numbers differ. Cambridge homes heated by natural gas can still get the Mass Save heat pump rebate when switching from gas, applied through the gas account.

Renting or living in a condo? Here's what actually applies to you
Cambridge has one of the highest renter shares of any Massachusetts city, so most of the numbers above won't apply directly to most residents here. Here's what changes:
If you rent
You can't claim the heat pump, insulation, or solar rebates — those go to whoever owns the property. The free Mass Save home energy assessment is still worth requesting through your landlord, since it often comes with a free smart thermostat and other no-cost measures. If you want the bigger upgrades done, the ask has to go to your landlord — point them to this page.
If you own a condo unit
In-unit upgrades you control yourself — a heat pump water heater, in-suite windows, an in-unit heat pump — can qualify for the Mass Save rebates above, usually with your condo association's approval for anything touching shared walls or exterior systems. Get that approval in writing before your contractor applies.
If it's a whole-building retrofit
Heat pumps, insulation, and solar for the whole building go through the condo association as a group decision, and Mass Save's multi-family program handles the paperwork rather than the single-unit process on this page. The HEAT Loan and Mass Save's free assessment are both still available — your association or property manager coordinates the application, not individual owners.
