How rebates work in New Brunswick

Most home rebates here come from one place: NB Power's Total Home Energy Savings Program. It is for homeowners, however you heat. You do not just buy something and send in the receipt. The order matters:

  1. Register online or call 1-800-663-6272.
  2. A Certified Energy Advisor does your Home Energy Evaluation.
  3. You read the report and pick your upgrades.
  4. You have 9 months from the evaluation to finish the work. Keep your receipts.
  5. The advisor checks the work and gives you a new EnerGuide rating. Then you get your rebates, by e-Transfer or direct deposit.

Our New Brunswick rebate calculator adds up only what is open for your home. We did not read the program guidelines, so ask NB Power what the evaluation costs and which homes are excluded.

Heat pump rebates

These are the amounts on the NB Power space heating page. The heat pump must be on NB Power's qualifying list.

What you installRebate
Central ducted air source heat pump$1,500
Heat pump add-on to a furnace$1,000
Geothermal heat pump$2,000
Mini split heat pump$400
Multizone heat pump$350 per indoor head

The same page pays $500 for a pellet stove or a wood or pellet boiler or furnace, and $200 for a wood stove, a wood or pellet fireplace insert, or a propane or natural gas fireplace insert. Some websites list different heat pump amounts, including a single $2,000 figure. They do not match the NB Power page.

Ottawa announced a National Heat Pump Rebate on October 8, 2026, expected to start in early 2027. How it will combine with NB Power rebates is not published yet. See our National Heat Pump Rebate guide.

Water heating, windows, HRV and air sealing

UpgradeRebate
Heat pump water heater (ENERGY STAR)$550
Drain water heat recovery (42% efficiency or better)$400
Windows, doors and skylights (ENERGY STAR)$50 each
Heat recovery ventilator (ENERGY STAR)$200
Air sealing, 10% to 25% less leakage$250 to $550

Air sealing pays on a sliding scale: $250 for 10%, $350 for 15%, $450 for 20% and $550 for 25%. You get nothing for air sealing if your home started at 3 air changes per hour or less, or if the size of the home changes, such as with an addition.

Insulation rebates

Insulation pays per square foot, by the R-value you add. You must insulate at least 20% of a building part, such as 20% of all the ceiling area. If you remove mouldy or squashed insulation, you must put back what you took out, plus the minimum to add. The table shows the lowest and highest rows on NB Power's page.

Part of the homeMinimum to addRebate per square foot
AtticR-15$0.40 at R-15 to $0.85 at R-60
Main wallsR-7.5$1.125 at R-7.5 to $2.25 at R-30

Lower income? Apply to the Enhanced program

The Enhanced Energy Savings Program is for homeowners with a combined household income under $70,000. NB Power checks line 15000 of each adult's latest Notice of Assessment. You must own and live in the home, and the home must need upgrades. If you heat with electric baseboards and have no mini split, NB Power may recommend one. If you heat only with an oil furnace or boiler, it may recommend a cold climate heat pump. Register online. Places are first come, first served while funding lasts. We could not find a closing date.

What has closed

The advance payment to switch from oil to a heat pump was the federal Oil to Heat Pump Affordability program, which NB Power delivers for Natural Resources Canada. The federal government ended registrations on June 30, 2026. If you registered, you must finish your work and your final energy evaluation by March 31, 2027, or repay the advance. The advance covered approved quotes of up to $15,000 for work such as the electrical and mechanical work for a heat pump, a geothermal ground loop, safe removal of the oil tank and electric backup heat. Rebates of up to $2,000 are still available for mini split, air source, geothermal, multizone and boiler add-on heat pumps, and for homes with income of $70,000 or less, NB Power says free upgrades to an oil heating system may be available through the Enhanced program. The solar rebate of $200 per kW closed to new enrolments on May 27, 2026.
