What Regina homes look like
The 2021 Census counted 92,130 households in the City of Regina.
- Older homes. 50,135 homes (54%) were built before 1981.
- Houses. 58,120 households (63%) live in single-detached houses, a higher share than in Saskatoon.
- Owners. 66% own and 34% rent.
- Repairs. 6,725 homes (7%) needed major repairs.
The median household total income was $88,000 in 2020, before tax, and about 24% of households earned under $50,000.
The rebate, line by line
SaskEnergy's Residential Equipment Replacement Rebate pays for replacing natural gas equipment that is part of your primary space or water heating system:
| Equipment | Minimum efficiency | Rebate |
|---|---|---|
| Furnace | 97.0% AFUE | $325 |
| Boiler, per plant up to 300 MBH | 95.0% AFUE | $750 |
| Combi boiler | 95.0% AFUE | $800 |
| Tankless water heater | 0.87 UEF | $1,000 |
| Condensing water heater | 0.80 UEF | $1,000 |
The revised terms took effect August 17, 2026, and the efficiency bar for furnaces is now 97.0%. A 96% furnace that earned a rebate before may not qualify now. SaskEnergy pays the amount in effect on the day it receives your complete application.
What the rebate is for
SaskEnergy describes the rebate as a payment to partially offset the higher purchase price of higher efficiency units. It is not meant to cover the whole bill, and it does not cover the contractor's labour on its own. With so many older Regina homes, the practical order is to ask your contractor three things before you sign: whether the exact model is on SaskEnergy's eligible equipment list, whether your existing unit is out of manufacturer's warranty, and who will file the application. The program says a contractor may apply on your behalf, and the eligibility of a unit and the amount are set by the rules and rebate schedule in effect on the day SaskEnergy receives the application, so file promptly after installation.
Who can apply, and the rules that catch people out
You must be the person who pays the invoice and be a registered homeowner, landlord or rental company, and a SaskEnergy residential customer. A contractor may apply for you. The home must be in Saskatchewan, and new construction is not eligible. Row housing and duplex units count if each has its own meter. Garages, including attached ones, do not. The equipment you replace must be out of manufacturer's warranty. Used or rebuilt units, self-installs, gifts and contest prizes are not eligible, but units bought at auction and units covered by an insurance claim are, with the invoice. You have 120 days from installation, and approved rebates arrive within 6 weeks.
Free help, and what has ended
SaskPower's Energy Assistance Program is free and open to homeowners, renters and landlords. SaskPower's Home Efficiency Retrofit Rebate ended in April 2026. We found no provincial heat pump, insulation or window rebate. That is a negative result, not proof that none exists. Ottawa's National Heat Pump Rebate is expected in early 2027. See our National Heat Pump Rebate guide.
