What you can claim in Abbotsford in 2026
Amounts come from the program pages we re-read on October 2, 2026. Each card is a maximum, and most depend on how your home is heated.

Partial heat pump
For a heat pump that covers at least half of the heating load while replacing electric heat.
Limited-time bonus
Extra money on heat pump installs completed between August 1 and October 31, 2026.
Community top-ups (select postal codes)
Select Abbotsford and Mount Lehman postal codes only. Heat pump top-up, plus $1,750 more on a Level 2 EV charger and double appliance rebates.

Windows and doors
$100 per opening, with a U-factor of 1.22 or lower.

Only when it replaces an electric water heater.

Start with the fuel, not the program
BC Hydro's Home Renovation Rebates are paid only for homes heated mainly by electricity. An Abbotsford house on baseboards or an electric furnace can claim up to $4,000 for a whole-home heat pump and up to $5,500 for insulation. A house on natural gas, oil or propane cannot, unless the household is income-qualified for CleanBC, which pays $3,500, $7,000 or $13,000 by income level when it swaps in a central or three-head heat pump. The gas utility is FortisBC, and its rebates apply to gas customers. Check your last bills before you call anyone.
Extra BC Hydro money in parts of Abbotsford
Some Abbotsford and Mount Lehman postal codes get BC Hydro's community-based offers. In those areas, a heat pump that replaces electric heat earns $4,000 more (whole home) or $1,500 more (partial) on top of the standard rebate. Also, a Level 2 EV charger at a single-family home gets a $1,750 top-up (up to the full cost) on top of the $350 rebate, if you apply between August 4 and December 31, 2026 and enroll the charger in Peak Saver for its $250 bonus. And select ENERGY STAR fridges, washers and dryers get double the regular rebate (see our BC appliance rebates page). These offers go by postal code, not by city, so check your address on BC Hydro's postal code checker first.
Abbotsford's housing in numbers
The 2021 Census counted 53,235 households in Abbotsford. About 37% live in single detached houses, and 69% own their home. Roughly 29% of households live in homes built before 1981, and 6,070 of those are owner-occupied detached houses, the group most likely to have thin attic insulation and old windows. Another 4.1% of households reported a home needing major repairs.
A mild climate changes the sizing conversation
The January average low in our climate file is 0.1°C, and the coldest day in 2015 to 2024 was -18.3°C. That is mild enough that a cold-climate heat pump carries most of the load for most of the winter, but the BC Hydro rule still asks for equipment that meets 100% of the heating load at -5°C, so the installer has to size to that number rather than to an average day. Abbotsford also gets about 3.2 peak sun hours a day, among the lowest of the BC cities we cover, so solar here pays back slowly and is the last upgrade we would price, not the first.
Where lower-income households fit
Households under the CleanBC income limits get help that no other Abbotsford household can: an income Level 1 family on gas can reach $13,000 for the heat pump, and an electric-heated Level 1 family up to $5,000. If your income might qualify, ask about it before you accept a quote, because the equipment that earns the CleanBC amount is specified (central or three or more heads).

Where to start in Abbotsford
- Find out whether your bills say electric, gas, oil or propane.
- If the house is electric, ask for quotes from Home Performance Contractor Network members and ask each one to list the heat pump model.
- If the house is on gas, check CleanBC's income table before comparing prices.
- Take quotes for insulation and windows in the same visit if the house was built before 1981.
- Keep every invoice, because each program has its own deadline to apply.
Common questions
Does Abbotsford get a different rebate than Vancouver?
No. BC Hydro and CleanBC amounts are set provincially. What differs is the housing: Abbotsford has 69% owners and far more single detached houses (37%) than Vancouver does.
My Abbotsford house heats with gas. What can I get?
BC Hydro will not pay for the heat pump. CleanBC pays $3,500, $7,000 or $13,000 for income-qualified households at Levels 3, 2 and 1. Above the income limits we found no provincial rebate for a gas to heat pump switch.
Is solar worth it in Abbotsford?
The rebate is up to $5,000, but the area averages about 3.2 peak sun hours a day in our data, so payback is slower than in the Interior. Price it after insulation and heating.
How cold does it get here?
The January average low is 0.1 degrees Celsius and the record low in 2015 to 2024 was -18.3 degrees, so a cold-climate heat pump on BC Hydro's list is the normal choice.
