How the insulation rebate adds up
NB Power pays per square foot by the R-value you add. These examples use the official table and a made-up home size, so they show the method, not your rebate. The rates between the rows are also paid.
| Job | Rate on the table | Example |
|---|---|---|
| Attic, add R-40 to 1,000 square feet | $0.65 per square foot | $650 |
| Attic, add R-60 to 1,000 square feet | $0.85 per square foot | $850 |
| Basement walls, add R-20 to 600 square feet | $1.50 per square foot | $900 |
| Basement header, add R-30 to 150 square feet | $2.00 per square foot | $300 |
You must insulate at least 20% of the area, and the attic minimum to add is R-15. If you remove mouldy or squashed insulation, you must put back what you took out plus the minimum to add.
Heat pumps and the rest of the list
A central ducted air source heat pump earns $1,500, a mini split $400, and a multizone system $350 per indoor head. A heat pump water heater earns $550. Windows, doors and skylights earn $50 each, a heat recovery ventilator $200, and air sealing $250 to $550 by how much leakage drops. Air sealing does not pay if your home started at 3 air changes per hour or less.
Steps and the evaluation
The Total Home Energy Savings Program starts with a Home Energy Evaluation by a Certified Energy Advisor. Register online or call 1-800-663-6272. You have 9 months from the evaluation to finish the work. A final inspection gives you a new EnerGuide rating, and the rebates are paid from your receipts. If your combined household income is under $70,000, ask about the Enhanced Energy Savings Program instead. See our National Heat Pump Rebate guide for the federal rebate expected in early 2027.
