What Moncton homes look like
The 2021 Census counted 35,120 households in the City of Moncton. Four numbers matter for rebates:
- Income. The median household total income was $68,000 in 2020. About 52% of households earned under $70,000, and about 19% earned under $35,000. These are before-tax Census figures, not the Enhanced program's own test.
- Owners and renters. 56% own and 44% rent.
- Older homes. About 46% were built before 1981.
- Kinds of homes. 14,770 houses are single-detached (42%), 4,380 are semi-detached, and 10,595 are apartments in buildings under five storeys.
2,025 homes (6%) needed major repairs. Repairs come first, because insulation does little in a home with a leaky roof.
Check the income program first
The Enhanced Energy Savings Program is for homeowners with a combined household income under $70,000. NB Power checks line 15000 of each adult's latest Notice of Assessment, and you must own and live in the home. If your home has electric baseboards and no mini split, NB Power may recommend one. If you heat only with an oil furnace or boiler, it may recommend a cold climate heat pump. Places are first come, first served while funding lasts, so register early. If you are already in Total Home, email SmartHabits@nbpower.com. Given the Census income numbers, many Moncton households are close enough to the line to be worth a check.
The Total Home steps in Moncton
The usual path is the Total Home Energy Savings Program. You register online or call 1-800-663-6272. A Certified Energy Advisor does your Home Energy Evaluation. You pick upgrades from the report and have 9 months to finish them. The advisor then checks the work and gives you a new EnerGuide rating, and you get your rebates from your receipts, by e-Transfer or direct deposit. Book the evaluation before you buy anything, because the evaluation unlocks the rebates.
Heat pumps and water heaters in Moncton
A central ducted air source heat pump earns $1,500, a mini split $400, a furnace add-on $1,000 and a geothermal system $2,000. A multizone system pays $350 for each indoor head. The unit must be on NB Power's qualifying list. A heat pump water heater earns $550. The oil to heat pump advance payment closed to new registrations on June 30, 2026. Ottawa's National Heat Pump Rebate is expected in early 2027, and how it combines with NB Power is not published. See our National Heat Pump Rebate guide.
