What you can claim in Chilliwack in 2026

Whole-home heat pump
Must replace electric heat such as baseboards or an electric furnace, meet 100% of the heating load at -5C and be installed by a Home Performance Contractor Network member.
Partial heat pump
For a heat pump that covers at least half of the heating load while replacing electric heat.
Limited-time bonus
Extra money on heat pump installs completed between August 1 and October 31, 2026.
Income-qualified switch from gas, oil or propane
CleanBC pays by income level (Level 3 / Level 2 / Level 1) for a central or three-head heat pump, for invoices from July 6, 2026.
Insulation
Attic, wall and basement or crawlspace work, paid per R-value added per square foot. Homes heated mainly by electricity only.
Windows and doors
$100 per opening, with a U-factor of 1.22 or lower.
Heat pump water heater
Only when it replaces an electric water heater.
Solar panels
$1,000 per kW, capped at half the cost, from an HPCN member installer.
Battery storage
Up to $1,500 on its own with solar, or up to $5,000 with Peak Saver enrolment.
EV charger
50% of a new wall-mounted Level 2 charger, plus $200 for a power-management device.

Why Chilliwack fits the rebate rules
The BC Hydro Home Renovation Rebates are designed around owner-occupied houses heated by electricity. In Chilliwack 54% of households live in detached houses and 72% own, so a larger share of homes can be considered than in Burnaby or Vancouver. What decides eligibility is still the heating fuel. Gas, oil and propane homes are outside the BC Hydro program unless the household qualifies for CleanBC.
Older houses are the main target
The 2021 Census puts 34% of Chilliwack households in homes built before 1981, and 6,495 of those are owner-occupied detached houses. Houses from that period often have shallow attic insulation and original windows. BC Hydro pays $0.02 per R-value added per square foot in an attic, capped at $900, and requires at least R12 added. Before you get quotes, have the contractor measure what you have now so the rebate can be calculated in advance.
Small repair gap, real opportunity
About 4.6% of Chilliwack households told the Census their home needs major repairs, which is close to the middle of this group. If the roof is due anyway, ask the roofer whether attic work can be scheduled alongside it.
Cold snaps and equipment choice
The January average low is 0.2°C, but the coldest recorded day in 2015 to 2024 was -17.5°C. Choose a heat pump model on BC Hydro's eligible list and make sure the installer's load calculation uses the -5°C design number the rebate requires.
