What changed
If you've seen Nova Scotia described online as having "the most generous heat pump rebate in Canada," that's now out of date. The core Home Heating System Rebates Program closed to new applications on December 31, 2025. The federal top-up, the Oil to Heat Pump Affordability Program (OHPA), closed to new applicants on July 2, 2026. Nova Scotia moved first on this compared to most other provinces.
What's left is real but more targeted. A new federal program is reportedly returning to serve more than 35,000 low- and median-income Nova Scotia households with no-cost heat pump and insulation upgrades — worth watching if you fall into that income band.
What you can actually claim in 2026
🔥 Heat Pump
The big stackable Home Heating System Rebates Program closed Dec 31, 2025, but Efficiency Nova Scotia still offers up to $5,000 to any homeowner, up to $15,000 for moderate-income households, and free installation for income-qualified homes through HomeWarming.
🧱 Insulation & Air Sealing
Still active as a no-cost upgrade program for eligible households through HomeWarming.
☀️ Solar
A 10kW system nets roughly $6,000. Check current status on the Efficiency Nova Scotia solar rebates page before assuming it's still open — some programs have paused new applications.
💧 Water Heater
Still active for efficient home water heating systems. Water heating rebates →
🌡️ Smart Thermostat
Free product and installation still offered via Efficiency Nova Scotia.
🔋 Battery Storage
No dedicated battery storage rebate found as of 2026.
🪟 Windows & Doors
No standalone windows/doors rebate found — may be covered under broader insulation programs.

No dedicated residential EV charger rebate found as of 2026.
