Payment dates for 2026-27
The province does not publish a payment calendar. Your date depends on when you apply and when your file is complete. These are the dates the province gives:
| What | Date |
|---|---|
| Applications open | October 1, 2026 |
| Last day to apply (paper forms must be postmarked by this day) | March 31, 2027 |
| How long payment takes | 8 to 10 weeks |
The province lists the wait as 8 weeks on its apply page and 8 to 10 weeks on its status page. Plan for up to 10.
When will my payment arrive? Our math
These dates are our own math, not official dates. We added 8 and 10 weeks to the day you apply. If the province asks you for a paper, the clock stops until you send it.
| If you apply on | Likely paid between |
|---|---|
| October 1, 2026 | November 26 and December 10, 2026 |
| October 15, 2026 | December 10 and December 24, 2026 |
| November 1, 2026 | December 27, 2026 and January 10, 2027 |
| December 1, 2026 | January 26 and February 9, 2027 |
| January 15, 2027 | March 12 and March 26, 2027 |
| March 31, 2027 | May 26 and June 9, 2027 |
The lesson: apply early. The rebate is the same $400 in October or in March, but the winter heating bills come first.
How to check your heating rebate status
- Find the confirmation number you got when you applied online.
- Open the province's status page and follow the link to the status tool.
- Type in your confirmation number and your postal code.
- Read what it says. The province says the page shows whether your application was received or approved.
If you mailed a paper form, the online tool has no number for you. Use the contact link on the province's program page to ask about your file. Keep a copy of what you mailed and the day you mailed it.
Why your payment may be late
The province says it can take longer if it needs more papers or if part of the form is missing. These are the things to check:
- Every adult in the home signed the form.
- Every adult's Social Insurance Number and date of birth are on it.
- You included your 2025 Notice of Assessment details and, if asked, a heating bill or receipt.
- You sent the Landlord Declaration Form if you rent and pay for electric heat.
How you get the money
The province pays by direct deposit if your tax refund is direct deposited. If not, it mails a cheque to your address.
What to do while you wait
The $400 helps with one winter. Nova Scotia has bigger programs that lower the bill for good. A Home Energy Assessment can lead to up to $5,000 in rebates, and HomeWarming gives free upgrades to lower-income homeowners. See our Nova Scotia rebate guide for every open program. Common questions
How do I check the status of my heating rebate?
Use the province's status page. You need the confirmation number from your online application and your postal code. It shows whether your application was received or approved.
How long does the Nova Scotia heating rebate take in 2026-27?
The province says it should take 8 to 10 weeks after you apply. There is no single payment date for everyone. Delays happen if the province needs more papers.
My status says approved. When does the money come?
Approved means the province has approved your application. The payment still follows the 8 to 10 weeks the province gives, counted from when you applied. If it has been more than 10 weeks, ask the province using the contact link on its program page.
What does "received" mean on the status page?
Received means the province has your application. It has not been approved yet. Approved means it has been approved for payment. Either way, the 8 to 10 weeks count from the day you applied.
My confirmation number does not work. What do I do?
Type the confirmation number and postal code exactly as they were on your application. The tool only works for people who applied online. If you mailed a paper form, or you still cannot find your file, use the contact link on the province's program page.
Can I check my status if I mailed a paper form?
No. The online tool is for people who applied online. Use the contact link on the province's program page instead.
Is the Nova Scotia heating rebate the same as HARP?
Yes. HARP is the Heating Assistance Rebate Program. It pays $400 per household toward heating costs.
Who gets the Nova Scotia heating rebate?
You must pay for your own home heat. Then you need a 2025 net income of $30,000 or less if you live alone, or $45,000 or less combined if you live with kids, dependents or other adults. People on Income Assistance, or who get the Guaranteed Income Supplement or the Allowance, can also qualify. See who qualifies for HARP.
When do applications close?
March 31, 2027. A paper form must be postmarked by that day.
How much is the heating rebate?
$400 for each household, according to the province.
Is it paid by cheque or direct deposit?
Direct deposit if your tax refund is direct deposited. Otherwise it is mailed to you.
Is a text or email asking for my banking details real?
No. The province says Service Nova Scotia will never text or email you asking for banking details or asking you to click a link to get your rebate.
Is there a Nova Scotia heating rebate in 2027?
This winter's rebate (2026-27) takes applications until March 31, 2027, and pays $400 per household. Each winter is a new application. When the province posts dates for the next winter, we will update this page.
