Newer homes: check the 2014 rule

Home Rebates in Paradise

Paradise is one of the newest towns in the province: more than half its homes were built since 2006. That changes which rebates fit. Some programs only pay for homes built before 2014, while others, like the HRV rebate, work for any home. Here is what is open on October 16, 2026.

Questions about Paradise, from the data behind this page. Tap an answer to see why.

1. Rebates in Paradise often depend on the utility. Which one do we use for Paradise?

Newfoundland Power is the utility we use for Paradise. Rebates often depend on who supplies your power or gas, so check yours first.

2. What is the largest 'up to' heat pump figure on our Paradise summary?

Our summary for Paradise: Oil or propane homes: up to $22,000 for a central heat pump if income-qualified, up to $9,000 otherwise (takeCHARGE Oil to Electric, paid to a participating installer). No takeCHARGE heat pump rebate for homes already on electric heat. The amount you get depends on your home, income and utility, so use the calculator.

3. About what share of homes in Paradise are rented?

The 2021 Census counts 1,905 renter households out of 8,810 in Paradise. Many rebates go to owners, and some programs have separate rules for landlords and tenants.

What Paradise homes look like

The 2021 Census counted 8,810 households in Paradise. Only about 10% of homes were built before 1981, compared with about 50% across the province. About 52% were built from 2006 to 2021, and about 31% from 2011 to 2021. About 78% of households own their home, and about 32% live in a unit of a duplex.

The 2014 rule

The takeCHARGE insulation rebate (75% of the cost, up to $3,000 with labour) and the air sealing rebate for homes replacing attic insulation only apply to homes built and connected before January 1, 2014. In Paradise that rules out a real share of homes, roughly the ones built in the last decade. Check your build date before you plan an insulation job around a rebate.

Newer homes were also built to tighter codes, so the attic is less likely to need a top-up anyway. The better money for a new home is usually elsewhere.

What works for a newer home

  • HRV rebate, $225: any home and any heat source, for an eligible high-efficiency model installed by an HRAI certified installer. Tight new homes need good ventilation, and many older HRVs from the 2000s are due for replacement.
  • Air sealing for existing homes, $200 to $750: this pathway has no build-year rule on the takeCHARGE page, but it needs electric heat, an HRV and before and after blower door tests showing at least a 10% improvement.
  • Duct insulation, up to $500: if your main heat is an electric furnace or ducted heat pump.

If your home has oil heat

Fewer Paradise homes are old enough to have started on oil, but some do. If yours does, Oil to Electric pays up to $22,000 for a central heat pump if your household is income-qualified, or up to $9,000 if not. Note one rule: new homes are not eligible, and an oil tank installed since January 1, 2025 gets extra review.

Lower income?

The TakeCharge Greener Homes Program can pay for heat pumps, HRVs, insulation and air sealing at no cost for income-qualified homeowners, after a home energy assessment. It is separate from the old federal Canada Greener Homes Grant, which has ended.
