How much you get
The most you can get is $1,000. You get the full $1,000 if your 2025 adjusted family income was $100,000 or less. If it was over $100,000 and up to $150,000, you get a smaller amount, with a minimum of $400. The province does not say how the smaller amount is worked out, so ask the program if you are in that range.
For most people, adjusted family income is your 2025 net income (line 23600 of your tax return) plus your spouse's or partner's. Your 2025 tax return must be filed with the Canada Revenue Agency before you apply.
What does it cost to apply?
The program page lists no fee to apply. The supplement is money paid to you, not a loan. The only costs are ones you would have anyway: the oil you buy during 2026 (you need invoices for at least 250 litres) and a stamp if you mail the form. The province offers free help by phone and email, so there is no reason to pay a company to file for you.
Who can apply
You must pay for furnace or stove oil to heat your main home in Newfoundland and Labrador. You need:
- 2025 adjusted family income of $150,000 or less.
- Oil invoices from January 1 to December 31, 2026, in your name or your spouse's or partner's name, showing at least 250 litres and the delivery address.
- A signed application and a correct Social Insurance Number.
Only one person per household can apply. Heat that is included in your rent does not count, and fully subsidized Newfoundland and Labrador Housing units are not eligible unless you have oil invoices. In some special cases, such as a spouse who died, a spouse in long-term care or a divorce, you may qualify even if your income looks too high. The program asks for papers to prove it. Not sure which home counts as your main home? The province links a Tax Information Bulletin on principal residence (PDF).

Already applied or already paid?
If you applied for the 2026 program, you do not need to apply again. The province raised the amounts after the program opened. If you were already paid, it says you will get a second payment later this year.
When you get paid
The province says most applications are processed within 10 weeks of arriving. Many forms at once, or forms with missing pieces, can slow that down. If your tax refund or GST/HST credit comes by direct deposit from the Canada Revenue Agency, your supplement goes to the same bank account. If not, you get a cheque.
Change your bank details with the Canada Revenue Agency before you apply, since the Department of Finance cannot change them. How to change your direct deposit (Canada Revenue Agency).
The deadline
Applications close on January 15, 2027, and late applications are not accepted. This page is about the 2026 program. We do not have 2027 dates or amounts yet, and we will update this page if the province posts them.
Keep your invoices
Save every oil invoice with your address on it. Photocopies are fine. If a delivery is missing an address, ask your supplier to reissue it before you apply. Make a copy of your signed form and note the date you applied.
