Township of Langley
The Township counted 46,925 households in 2021. 82% own, the highest ownership share of the 18 BC cities we cover. About 48% live in detached houses and 23% in homes built before 1981, the lowest pre-1981 share in this group. Still, 6,640 owner-occupied detached houses date from before 1981. A Township homeowner with an electric-heated house can claim BC Hydro's full set of home rebates. A lot with no gas line may heat with propane or oil, which are outside BC Hydro's program.
City of Langley
The City counted 12,600 households. 38% live in homes built before 1981, and 21% live in detached houses. 63% own. Only 1,765 are owner-occupied detached houses from before 1981, which is a small pool next to the Township, and major repairs were reported by 5.3% of households against 4.1% in the Township. Most City households do not live in a detached house, so check whether your building is covered by the house rebates or the condo program.
Which municipality are you in?
The rebate amounts are the same on both sides of the boundary, because BC Hydro and CleanBC are provincial. What differs is the type of home. A Township acreage on a well and propane heat needs a different plan from a City of Langley townhouse on baseboards. Say which you have when you talk to an installer so the quote covers the right equipment.
Climate
The January average low is 0.3°C and the 2015 to 2024 record low was -16.8°C. A cold-climate heat pump on BC Hydro's list handles that. Solar gets about 3.33 peak sun hours a day.
