Cooling matters here too

With a January low of -6.2°C, Windsor's winters are not harsh, so central air is a bigger part of a household's year than in the north. That makes Peak Perks, which needs central air and an eligible Wi-Fi thermostat, worth a look. It pays $75 on enrollment and $20 a year.

Enwin Utilities

Enwin Utilities supplies electricity, and Windsor postal codes begin with N, which the Energy Affordability Program lists. 37% of households rent. 60% live in detached homes and 13% in buildings of five or more storeys.

Who here can claim the $125

The program pays for single detached, semi-detached, row, townhome and mobile homes on a permanent foundation. In Windsor about 72% of 94,275 households live in one of those. If yours is an apartment or a duplex unit, this rebate is not written for you, and the Energy Affordability Program is the route to ask about.

Two ways to claim

Before you buy, press the program page's Get code button, receive a code by email and enter it at checkout on the Home Depot, Best Buy, Copeland Sensi, ecobee or Mysa website. After you buy, press Apply for rebate and upload the receipt within 60 days. Either way the thermostat has to be one of the listed models, and a Windsor homeowner who buys in a store should keep the receipt.

If you rent

The rebate page does not say owners only. It asks that you live in an eligible home type and that either gas or electric heating or cooling applies. In Windsor, 37% of households rent. A tenant should still get the landlord's agreement before replacing the thermostat on the wall and should ask whether it goes back when they leave.

How to claim in Windsor

  1. Check that your home type, heating and cooling match the eligibility card, and that you have not had a thermostat offer before.
  2. Pick one of the listed models from ecobee, Google Nest, Honeywell Home, Copeland Sensi, Mysa or Sinopé.
  3. Get a code from the program page and use it at checkout, or buy first and upload the receipt within 60 days.
  4. If you have central air, enroll the same thermostat in Peak Perks. Enwin Utilities is your local distributor, but Peak Perks is run by Save on Energy.
  5. If your household income is under the program limits, call 1-844-770-3148 before buying, since a free thermostat may be available.
