What the Home Renovation Savings program pays for windows and doors in Windsor
We re-read the program's page and its eligibility requirements on October 3, 2026. Windows and doors are paid only inside the assessment stream, so every amount here comes with an assessment and at least two upgrades.
Windows and doors
One payment per opening in an outside wall, not per unit. A bay window with three panes in one opening earns $100.
Smallest qualifying job
Three window openings, or one door, sliding door or skylight opening, count as one qualified measure. Two windows alone earn nothing.
Home energy assessment
$600 comes back when the program is completed. Covers the cost of the first and the follow-up assessment once the program is completed.
Three or more upgrades
Windows count as one upgrade. Insulation, air sealing and a heat pump water heater are the others in this stream.
Program cap
$10,000 for homes heated by electricity, oil, propane or wood, and $5,000 for homes heated by Enbridge gas.

The program is run by Enbridge Gas and Save on Energy. Post-audits must be scheduled by November 30, 2026 and completed by December 31, 2026, or within 180 days of your first assessment, whichever comes first.
The oldest stock in the south
The 2021 Census counts 34,370 owner-occupied detached houses built before 1981 in Windsor, a large pool for a city of 94,275 households. 60% of households live in a detached house, 72% in an eligible house type and 63% own. A house reporting major repairs often needs the work done in a particular order: roof and structure, then insulation and windows, then heating. The program requires the first assessment before any upgrade, so schedule it before the contractors begin.
Why Windsor homes often qualify for the higher cap
The higher cap of $10,000 applies to homes heated with electricity, oil, propane or wood. Enbridge gas homes have a $5,000 cap. Which one applies to you depends on the heating system at both the first and the follow-up assessment, so a gas-to-electric conversion during the project can change your eligibility. If your electrically heated home converts to oil, propane or wood before the post-audit, you are not eligible at all.
Weather and rough openings
Windsor's January average low is -6.2°C and the coldest day from 2015 to 2024 was -28.0°C. The rebate does not depend on climate, only on replacing non-ENERGY STAR windows with certified models. It does depend on the openings you replace, so measure and list each one. Count each rough opening once, even if several panes sit inside it.
Is it worth it on a house needing repairs?
If the house needs major work, the program's rebates are a small piece. The $600 audit rebate and up to $10,000 in total are real but limited. Use the audit report to prioritise, and check the Energy Affordability Program from Save on Energy if your household income is lower, because it offers free upgrades rather than rebates.
The paperwork trail
Keep the invoices for both audits and for each upgrade, plus the property tax bill, which the advisor needs at the post-audit. Rebates arrive within 60 days by cheque or within 30 days by Interac e-Transfer once the advisor has submitted everything, so choose the payment method when you sign up and keep your contact details current.
How to claim in Windsor
- Confirm you own the home, it has been occupied for six months and it is one of the eligible house types.
- Book the first home energy assessment with a registered energy advisor before any work starts.
- Choose at least one more upgrade to pair with the windows, and get quotes that count rough openings the way the program does.
- Book the first assessment before any contractor starts work.
- Have a professional install complete windows or doors with frames, keep the ENERGY STAR labels on until the follow-up assessment, and book it.
