What Ontario pays for a smart thermostat in Mississauga
We re-read the three program pages on October 4, 2026. The rebate is province-wide, so the amount is the same in every city, and the page that matters is the one that says whether your home and heating qualify.
Smart thermostat
One rebate on an eligible smart thermostat, claimed with a code at checkout or with a receipt uploaded within 60 days of buying.
Who is eligible
You must be an Enbridge Gas customer heating mainly with a gas furnace or boiler, or be on the Ontario grid and use electric heat or cooling, and live in a house, semi, row, townhome or mobile home on a permanent foundation.
One per household, ever
A smart thermostat rebate, discount or free device from Enbridge, Save on Energy or Home Renovation Savings in the past rules you out.
Peak Perks
A prepaid card for joining the summer demand response program with central air or a heat pump controlled by an eligible Wi-Fi thermostat.
Energy Affordability Program
Households under the income limits get a programmable or smart thermostat, depending on the home, with other upgrades at no charge.
Cornwall excluded
Cornwall Electric customers cannot join the rebate or Peak Perks.

A city of two housing types
About 62% of Mississauga households live in a house, semi, row or townhome the rebate covers, and 27% live in buildings of five or more storeys. 7% live in smaller apartment buildings. For the apartment share, the practical routes are the Energy Affordability Program and anything the building owner arranges.
Alectra Utilities
Alectra Utilities distributes power in Mississauga. It does not run the thermostat rebate, which comes from Home Renovation Savings with Enbridge Gas, and Peak Perks comes from Save on Energy. What Alectra Utilities matters for is the bill and the account number: the free thermostat route asks for the primary or secondary utility account holder.
Who here can claim the $125
The program pays for single detached, semi-detached, row, townhome and mobile homes on a permanent foundation. In Mississauga about 62% of 244,575 households live in one of those. If yours is an apartment or a duplex unit, this rebate is not written for you, and the Energy Affordability Program is the route to ask about.
Adding Peak Perks
Peak Perks pays a $75 virtual prepaid Mastercard when you enroll and $20 a year after. It needs central air conditioning, or a heat pump that is part of central air, run by an eligible Wi-Fi thermostat from ecobee, Google Nest, Honeywell Home, Emerson, Trane or Alarm.com. On hot weekday afternoons the utility can adjust the setting by up to 2 degrees Celsius for no more than three hours, and you can opt out during an event. With the $125, a first year could bring in $200, though Peak Perks cannot be combined with other Ontario demand response programs.
The size of the saving
The rebate is a flat $125, so it takes the same amount off a cheap thermostat and an expensive one. It does not guarantee a lower bill. How much a smart thermostat changes your energy use depends on your schedule, your system and how you set it, and we have no program figure to quote for that.
How to claim in Mississauga
- Check that your home type, heating and cooling match the eligibility card, and that you have not had a thermostat offer before.
- Pick one of the listed models from ecobee, Google Nest, Honeywell Home, Copeland Sensi, Mysa or Sinopé.
- Get a code from the program page and use it at checkout, or buy first and upload the receipt within 60 days.
- If you have central air, enroll the same thermostat in Peak Perks. Alectra Utilities is your local distributor, but Peak Perks is run by Save on Energy.
- If your household income is under the program limits, call 1-844-770-3148 before buying, since a free thermostat may be available.
Common questions
Is Mississauga's $125 rebate from the city?
No. It comes from Ontario's Home Renovation Savings program and is the same across the province.
Does Alectra offer a thermostat rebate?
We did not find one on the pages we read. Check Alectra's site for new offers.
Can an apartment tenant in Mississauga claim it?
The page lists houses, semis, rows, townhomes and mobile homes, so an apartment is not covered.
Do I need central air for the $125?
No. Central air only matters for Peak Perks. The rebate needs gas heat, or electric heat or cooling, in an eligible home.
