Quick quiz: windows and doors in Mississauga

Questions about Mississauga, from the data behind this page. Tap an answer to see why.

1. Rebates in Mississauga often depend on the utility. Which one do we use for Mississauga?

Alectra Utilities is the utility we use for Mississauga. Rebates often depend on who supplies your power or gas, so check yours first.

2. What is a typical January night low in Mississauga?

Our weather sample for Mississauga (2015-2024) shows an average January low of -8 °C. Cold-climate heat pumps are tested at low temperatures, so check the rating at your coldest days, not just the average.

3. Renters make up what share of Mississauga households?

The 2021 Census counts 72,350 renter households out of 244,575 in Mississauga. Many rebates go to owners, and some programs have separate rules for landlords and tenants.

What the Home Renovation Savings program pays for windows and doors in Mississauga

We re-read the program's page and its eligibility requirements on October 3, 2026. Windows and doors are paid only inside the assessment stream, so every amount here comes with an assessment and at least two upgrades.

Open

Windows and doors

$100 per rough opening

One payment per opening in an outside wall, not per unit. A bay window with three panes in one opening earns $100.

Single-family homes
Open

Smallest qualifying job

3 windows, or 1 door

Three window openings, or one door, sliding door or skylight opening, count as one qualified measure. Two windows alone earn nothing.

Open

Home energy assessment

Refunded on completion

$600 comes back when the program is completed. Covers the cost of the first and the follow-up assessment once the program is completed.

Open

Three or more upgrades

+$500 bonus

Windows count as one upgrade. Insulation, air sealing and a heat pump water heater are the others in this stream.

The program is run by Enbridge Gas and Save on Energy. Post-audits must be scheduled by November 30, 2026 and completed by December 31, 2026, or within 180 days of your first assessment, whichever comes first.

High ownership, large apartment share

In the 2021 Census 70% of Mississauga households own, but only 37% live in a single detached house, and 27% live in apartments of five or more storeys. 62% live in a house type the program covers. The eligible pool is smaller than the owner figure suggests, because owning a condo does not make a household eligible: condos and apartments are not covered.

Mid-century homes and the window question

38% of Mississauga households live in homes built before 1981, and 30,140 are owner-occupied detached houses. Major repairs were reported by 4.8%. For those houses, the rebate for windows is a small part of the total bill, so use it as the third upgrade to unlock the $500 bonus rather than as the reason to replace.

Counting openings before you sign

The rebate pays by rough opening. A wall with a large fixed window and two side vents in one frame is one opening. A door with sidelights in one frame is also one opening. Ask for the number in writing, and ask whether any units share a frame. A sliding door counts as a door-type opening and qualifies alone.

Skylights and sliding doors

Skylights and sliding doors are treated as openings too. One sliding door is enough to count as a qualifying measure by itself, and so is one skylight. That makes a patio door the cheapest way to clear the minimum in many Mississauga houses, although the rebate is the same $100 as for a window, and the audit still has to happen first.

Tenants and owners

The program requires you to own the home. Where an owner has tenants in part of the house, the owner must apply. In a Mississauga house with a rented basement, that means the owner books the audits and signs the participant agreement, and the audit must cover the whole home with a central heating system.

How to claim in Mississauga

  1. Confirm you own the home, it has been occupied for six months and it is one of the eligible house types.
  2. Book the first home energy assessment with a registered energy advisor before any work starts.
  3. Choose at least one more upgrade to pair with the windows, and get quotes that count rough openings the way the program does.
  4. Ask the energy advisor to confirm the opening count on the custom report.
  5. Have a professional install complete windows or doors with frames, keep the ENERGY STAR labels on until the follow-up assessment, and book it.

Common questions

Does a Mississauga condo qualify?

No. The program covers houses, semis, rows and townhomes, not apartments or condos.

Are two windows enough?

No. You need three window openings, or a door, sliding door or skylight opening.

What is the bonus?

$500 when you complete three or more upgrades.

What is the deadline?

Post-audit scheduled by November 30, 2026 and completed by December 31, 2026.
