Questions about London, from the data behind this page. Tap an answer to see why.

1. Rebates in London often depend on the utility. Which one do we use for London?

2. What is a typical January night low in London?

Our weather sample for London (2015-2024) shows an average January low of -8 °C. Cold-climate heat pumps are tested at low temperatures, so check the rating at your coldest days, not just the average.

3. About what share of homes in London are rented?

The 2021 Census counts 73,100 renter households out of 174,655 in London. Many rebates go to owners, and some programs have separate rules for landlords and tenants.

What Ontario pays for a smart thermostat in London

We re-read the three program pages on October 4, 2026. The rebate is province-wide, so the amount is the same in every city, and the page that matters is the one that says whether your home and heating qualify.

Eligible houses, tall apartments

66% of London households live in a house, semi, row or townhome, and 42% rent. A resident of one of the 21% in tall buildings is outside the rebate, so the free Energy Affordability Program is the question to put to the landlord or to the program.

London Hydro

London Hydro supplies electricity, and London postal codes begin with N, which is on the program's list. Peak Perks is open to its customers with central air and an eligible Wi-Fi thermostat. London's average January low is -7.5°C.

Who here can claim the $125

The program pays for single detached, semi-detached, row, townhome and mobile homes on a permanent foundation. In London about 66% of 174,655 households live in one of those. If yours is an apartment or a duplex unit, this rebate is not written for you, and the Energy Affordability Program is the route to ask about.

Six brands, specific models

The rebate covers ecobee, Google Nest, Honeywell Home, Copeland Sensi, Mysa and Sinopé, and only the model numbers the program page lists for each. A thermostat from the same brand that is not on the list earns nothing, so match the box to the page before you pay. Check that your furnace or heat pump works with the model as well, which the maker's compatibility checker will tell you.

The size of the saving

The rebate is a flat $125, so it takes the same amount off a cheap thermostat and an expensive one. It does not guarantee a lower bill. How much a smart thermostat changes your energy use depends on your schedule, your system and how you set it, and we have no program figure to quote for that.

How to claim in London

  1. Check that your home type, heating and cooling match the eligibility card, and that you have not had a thermostat offer before.
  2. Pick one of the listed models from ecobee, Google Nest, Honeywell Home, Copeland Sensi, Mysa or Sinopé.
  3. Get a code from the program page and use it at checkout, or buy first and upload the receipt within 60 days.
  4. If you have central air, enroll the same thermostat in Peak Perks. London Hydro is your local distributor, but Peak Perks is run by Save on Energy.
  5. If your household income is under the program limits, call 1-844-770-3148 before buying, since a free thermostat may be available.
