What the Home Renovation Savings program pays for windows and doors in London

We re-read the program's page and its eligibility requirements on October 3, 2026. Windows and doors are paid only inside the assessment stream, so every amount here comes with an assessment and at least two upgrades.

The program is run by Enbridge Gas and Save on Energy. Post-audits must be scheduled by November 30, 2026 and completed by December 31, 2026, or within 180 days of your first assessment, whichever comes first.

London's older housing

The 2021 Census counts 42,240 owner-occupied detached houses built before 1981 in London, with 58% of households owning overall. 66% live in an eligible house type. Major repairs were reported by 5.5%, above the rate in Kitchener (4.7%). Original windows from the 1950s to 1970s are typical in houses of that age.

Renters, landlords and student areas

About 42% of London households rent, and the city has a large share of low-rise apartment buildings (10% of households) and duplexes. The program covers only owner-occupied homes of eligible types. An owner who rents out a room is still eligible; an owner of a building that was built as two units is not.

Choosing which upgrades to bundle

The program lists insulation, windows and doors, air sealing and a heat pump water heater as assessment-stream upgrades. For an older London house the audit often recommends attic insulation first, because it pays up to $1,500 compared with $100 per window opening. Ask the advisor to rank the recommendations by heat loss, and let that decide how many windows to replace.

What if the quote includes glass-only replacement

Some contractors offer to replace only the glazing in an existing sash. The program does not pay for glass-only, sash-only or door-slab-only work. It pays for a complete window or door with its frame, which can be inserted in the old frame to avoid disturbing the trim.

Timing for a December cutoff

The post-audit must be scheduled by November 30, 2026 and finished by December 31, 2026, or within 180 days of the first assessment, whichever comes first. A London homeowner who books the first assessment in October has weeks, not months, to get windows made and installed. Order lead times for custom sizes vary, so ask each supplier for a written delivery date, and tell the advisor your install date so the follow-up visit can be booked right after.

How to claim in London

  1. Confirm you own the home, it has been occupied for six months and it is one of the eligible house types.
  2. Book the first home energy assessment with a registered energy advisor before any work starts.
  3. Choose at least one more upgrade to pair with the windows, and get quotes that count rough openings the way the program does.
  4. Ask the advisor to rank upgrades by heat loss.
  5. Have a professional install complete windows or doors with frames, keep the ENERGY STAR labels on until the follow-up assessment, and book it.
