Appliance Rebates in Burbank

Burbank Water and Power pays $200 for a heat pump dryer or an induction cooktop that replaces gas. Low-income customers get far more, up to $2,000 for an induction cooktop. We could not find an electric range rebate on BWP's page, despite older notes that mention one.

A correction to older figures

Some notes, including earlier ones on this site, listed a $500 electric range rebate. BWP's Electrify Your Home page lists an induction cooktop at $200 and mentions induction and electric stoves in its text, but shows no separate electric range amount. We removed the $500 figure. Ask BWP in writing whether your range model qualifies before you buy.

The gas rule and the electrician rule

BWP's electrification rebates need a licensed electrician, permits and an inspection from Burbank's Building and Safety Division, and one new item must replace a gas-powered equivalent. That applies to the induction cooktop and the heat pump dryer. The gas line has to be capped, and the finaled permits go in with the application. The refrigerator and pool rebates sit on a different, simpler page and do not have those requirements.

Low-income amounts are much bigger

A customer enrolled in the Burbank Utility Service Subsidy (BUSS) or Lifeline program can get $2,000 for an induction cooktop and $600 for a heat pump dryer, and as much as $875 for a refrigerator. Enroll before you apply, and have the approval be within the past 18 months. BWP also says customers on a rate assistance program may be able to swap an old refrigerator for free. Affordable housing providers that meet BWP's tests can claim the provider amounts.

Your utility: Burbank Water and Power

BWP is the city's own utility. Glendale pays $400 for an electric range and a heat pump dryer (Glendale appliance rebates), so Burbank's standard amounts are lower, and its low-income amounts are much higher. Pasadena shows its appliance amounts only after login (Pasadena). The call center is (818) 238-3700.

Cooking and drying on a 240-volt circuit

Induction cooktops and heat pump dryers usually need a 240-volt circuit, and some heat pump dryers run on a standard outlet. Ask the electrician what your model needs. A panel upgrade earns $750 from BWP, but it cannot be claimed alone, so it only helps when it comes with a rebated item.

Federal money

The federal 25C and 25D tax credits ended for spending after December 31, 2025.

How to claim a BWP appliance rebate

  1. Check that BWP is your electric utility, and that one new item on the project will replace a gas appliance.
  2. If you want a low-income amount, enroll in BUSS or Lifeline first.
  3. Hire a licensed electrician, who obtains the permits and caps the gas line.
  4. Take a before photo of the gas appliance and nameplate photos of the new one.
  5. After the installation passes inspection, send BWP the application, itemized invoices, a W-9 and the finaled permits.
  6. Submit by email to BWPConservation@burbankca.gov, by mail, or at 164 W. Magnolia Boulevard.
