What Glendale Water and Power pays
These figures come from GWP's Home Energy and Water Saving Rebates page, which we read on October 2, 2026. Most are paid as a bill credit. You must be a GWP customer, and amounts marked as increased are for a limited time while funds last.
Electric range, range and oven combo, or wall oven
Replacing a gas unit. A wall oven must be 24 inches or larger. Paid as a bill credit.
Heat pump clothes dryer
Replacing a gas dryer. A standard electric dryer pays $200.
Refrigerator or freezer
ENERGY STAR, at least 15 cubic feet. One every 5 years per customer.
Room air conditioner
ENERGY STAR, up to two units (not more than $800) every 5 years.
Variable-speed pool pump
ENERGY STAR, for in-ground pools. One every 5 years.
Dishwasher, ceiling fan, whole house fan, solar attic fan
$50 for a dishwasher and $100 each for a ceiling fan (up to three), a whole house fan or a solar attic fan.
What a gas-to-electric kitchen and laundry earns
An electric range ($400), a heat pump dryer ($400) and a new refrigerator ($200) add up to $1,000 in bill credits. Add a heat pump water heater ($4,000) and a $1,000 panel upgrade if the project needs one, and the total on GWP's page reaches $6,000. These are limited-time amounts, so check them the day you apply.
Gas capping is the step people forget
Every swap from gas to electric needs a finalized Building and Safety gas capping and fuel switching plumbing permit. That covers the range, the oven, the wall oven and both kinds of dryer. An electrical permit is needed only if a new 240-volt circuit has to be installed and the location does not already have one. The City's permit services page explains how to apply through the Glendale Permits portal, and the Permit Services Center at (818) 548-3200 answers questions. If a gas line is only turned off at the valve, the permit is not finalized and GWP does not pay.
Ranges, ovens and dryers on a 240-volt circuit
Electric ranges, wall ovens and dryers need a 240-volt circuit. Many older Glendale homes have one for the dryer but not for the kitchen, so ask an electrician whether the panel has room before you buy. A panel upgrade can earn its own $1,000 rebate when it is paired with a heat pump or heat pump water heater, but GWP's page does not pay a panel rebate for an appliance alone.
Induction cooktops are worth a look if you are changing a gas range. GWP's list names electric ranges, range and oven combinations and wall ovens, and we did not find a separate induction cooktop line, so ask GWP whether a cooktop-only unit qualifies before you order one.
Your utility: Glendale Water and Power
GWP is the City's own utility and sets its own list, which is why Glendale pays more for an electric range than Pasadena, whose appliance page shows amounts only after login (Pasadena rebates). Burbank pays $500 for an electric range and $200 for a heat pump dryer (Burbank appliance rebates). If you live near the border between two cities, check your electric bill, since the utility on it sets the amounts.
Rebates for the efficiency items on the list
The refrigerator and freezer rebates ($200 each, for a limited time) need a full-size unit of at least 15 cubic feet and one rebate every five years at the same residence. The dishwasher pays $50. GWP pays for ceiling fans up to three per customer, whole house fans and solar attic fans, which are useful in a warm summer. All of these are bill credits. The amount cannot exceed what you paid, and GWP says rebates are not guaranteed until it verifies them.
Federal and state money
The federal 25C and 25D credits ended for spending after December 31, 2025. Statewide help from TECH Clean California and the federal HEEHRA program is fully reserved and takes new requests on hold only. The Switch Is On California site lists other incentives, but GWP's list is the one that is open for Glendale homes today.
How to claim a GWP appliance rebate
- Check that GWP serves your address, and that the appliance meets current ENERGY STAR guidelines where GWP requires it.
- If you are replacing a gas appliance, have the gas capped under a Building and Safety plumbing permit and get it finalized.
- If a new 240-volt circuit is needed, get the electrical permit too.
- Apply on the GWP rebate page within 12 months of the purchase date, with the receipt and the permit.
- Keep the model number and receipt. GWP verifies before it pays.
- Bill credits show on your GWP bill after approval.
