Quick quiz: smart thermostat in Whitby

Questions about Whitby, from the data behind this page. Tap an answer to see why.

1. Rebates in Whitby often depend on the utility. Which one do we use for Whitby?

Elexicon Energy is the utility we use for Whitby. Rebates often depend on who supplies your power or gas, so check yours first.

2. On average, how low does the temperature fall in Whitby in January?

Our weather sample for Whitby (2015-2024) shows an average January low of -8 °C. Cold-climate heat pumps are tested at low temperatures, so check the rating at your coldest days, not just the average.

3. Renters make up what share of Whitby households?

The 2021 Census counts 8,335 renter households out of 46,460 in Whitby. Many rebates go to owners, and some programs have separate rules for landlords and tenants.

What Ontario pays for a smart thermostat in Whitby

We re-read the three program pages on October 4, 2026. The rebate is province-wide, so the amount is the same in every city, and the page that matters is the one that says whether your home and heating qualify.

The most house-heavy city we cover

70% of Whitby households live in detached homes and 82% own. The house type is rarely the obstacle here. The usual stumbling blocks are a thermostat model that is not on the list, or an earlier offer.

Elexicon Energy

Elexicon Energy distributes power in Whitby, and postal codes begin with L, which the Energy Affordability Program lists. Peak Perks is open to Elexicon Energy customers with central air and an eligible Wi-Fi thermostat, and the $75 card is on top of the $125 rebate.

Check your history first

The most common reason for a refusal is an earlier offer. If you ever received a thermostat, a discount or a rebate on one from Enbridge Gas, Save on Energy or Home Renovation Savings, the program treats this as a second claim. If you are not sure, look for old emails or ask the program before you buy.

Six brands, specific models

The rebate covers ecobee, Google Nest, Honeywell Home, Copeland Sensi, Mysa and Sinopé, and only the model numbers the program page lists for each. A thermostat from the same brand that is not on the list earns nothing, so match the box to the page before you pay. Check that your furnace or heat pump works with the model as well, which the maker's compatibility checker will tell you.

The size of the saving

The rebate is a flat $125, so it takes the same amount off a cheap thermostat and an expensive one. It does not guarantee a lower bill. How much a smart thermostat changes your energy use depends on your schedule, your system and how you set it, and we have no program figure to quote for that.

How to claim in Whitby

  1. Check that your home type, heating and cooling match the eligibility card, and that you have not had a thermostat offer before.
  2. Pick one of the listed models from ecobee, Google Nest, Honeywell Home, Copeland Sensi, Mysa or Sinopé.
  3. Get a code from the program page and use it at checkout, or buy first and upload the receipt within 60 days.
  4. If you have central air, enroll the same thermostat in Peak Perks. Elexicon Energy is your local distributor, but Peak Perks is run by Save on Energy.
  5. If your household income is under the program limits, call 1-844-770-3148 before buying, since a free thermostat may be available.
