What the Home Renovation Savings program pays for windows and doors in Whitby

We re-read the program's page and its eligibility requirements on October 3, 2026. Windows and doors are paid only inside the assessment stream, so every amount here comes with an assessment and at least two upgrades.

Open

Windows and doors

$100 per rough opening

One payment per opening in an outside wall, not per unit. A bay window with three panes in one opening earns $100.

Smallest qualifying job

3 windows, or 1 door

Three window openings, or one door, sliding door or skylight opening, count as one qualified measure. Two windows alone earn nothing.

Home energy assessment

Refunded on completion

$600 comes back when the program is completed. Covers the cost of the first and the follow-up assessment once the program is completed.

+$500 bonus

Windows count as one upgrade. Insulation, air sealing and a heat pump water heater are the others in this stream.

Detached, owned and young

The 2021 Census shows 70% of Whitby households in detached houses, 86% in an eligible house type and 82% owning. Only 25% live in homes built before 1981, and 6,515 are owner-occupied detached houses of that age. About 13% live in homes built since 2011. Major repairs were reported by 3.2%, among the lowest rates we found.

The older pocket matters

Whitby's older houses, mainly those from before 1981, are the likely candidates for the window rebate. Check each existing window's label. A house whose windows were replaced under an earlier program may already have claimed the rebate for them, and the program does not pay twice for the same windows.

Elexicon is your electric utility

Whitby is served by Elexicon Energy. The window rebate does not depend on the electric utility. If Elexicon offers any program on your bill, ask your advisor whether it can be combined with this one before you start.

A realistic bundle

A Whitby owner with a 1970s house might replace twelve openings ($1,200), add attic insulation and air sealing for the $500 bonus and finish with the $600 audit rebate. Those numbers are arithmetic from the program's table, not a quote. Air sealing depends on reaching an air tightness target, which the program suggests choosing third or later.

Who must apply when there are tenants

Where an owner has tenants in part of the house, the owner must apply. For a Whitby house with a rented basement suite, the owner books both audits and signs the agreement. A house that was originally built as two dwellings is not eligible, even when one unit is owner-occupied.

Why Whitby owners should compare quotes by opening

Two quotes for the same house can list the same windows in different ways: one by unit, one by opening. Because the rebate is $100 per rough opening, ask each Whitby installer to label the openings on a sketch of the house, so you can confirm that three panes in one frame are one opening and not three. That small step also helps the energy advisor at the follow-up visit.

How to claim in Whitby

  1. Confirm you own the home, it has been occupied for six months and it is one of the eligible house types.
  2. Book the first home energy assessment with a registered energy advisor before any work starts.
  3. Choose at least one more upgrade to pair with the windows, and get quotes that count rough openings the way the program does.
  4. Check whether earlier programs already paid for any of your windows.
  5. Have a professional install complete windows or doors with frames, keep the ENERGY STAR labels on until the follow-up assessment, and book it.
