What Ontario pays for new appliances in Peterborough

We re-read the program's appliance page on October 4, 2026. The rebates are province-wide, so the amounts are the same in every city, and the rules about what you replace and which model you buy are what decide a claim.

Energy Affordability Program

Income-qualified households can get energy-efficient fridges and freezers at no charge, along with other upgrades.

Income-qualified

The appliance page states no end date, so confirm it is still open before you buy.

Winters and appliance choices

With a January low of -11.4°C, laundry and cooking run heavily through winter. The heat pump dryer pays $200 and induction ranges $150. 57% of households live in detached houses.

Hydro One

Hydro One distributes power in Peterborough (it took over Peterborough Distribution in 2020), and Peterborough postal codes begin with K, which the Energy Affordability Program lists. 41% of households rent, and a tenant should check with the landlord before a swap.

Replace, do not add

The program page asks for an existing electric appliance in need of replacing. A new fridge to go in a spare corner, or an induction range where the kitchen had no range, is not a replacement. If you are switching from gas to an electric appliance, the page does not say whether that counts, so ask the program before you buy. Peterborough households that already cook on an electric range are the clearest fit for the induction rebate.

Fridges and freezers at no cost

The Energy Affordability Program lists energy-efficient refrigerators and freezers among the items that comprehensive support can provide, along with LED bulbs, dehumidifiers and window air conditioners. It does not list washers or dryers, and its saving kits include no major appliances. Income limits run from $48,220 for one person to $96,439 for four, and Peterborough postal codes are among those it covers. Call 1-844-770-3148 to ask.

How many can I claim?

The page states no limit per household and no end date. That does not mean unlimited funding, and the program can change. If you plan to replace a washer and a dryer, or a fridge and a freezer, get them on the program's lists first and keep every receipt, since each claim is separate and has its own 60-day window.

Adding up the six

The six rebates are $200 for a heat pump dryer, $150 for an induction cooktop or range, $75 for a washer, $50 each for a fridge and a freezer and $25 for a dishwasher. A household that replaced all six would receive $550, though few Peterborough homes will need to swap everything at once. The rebate is flat, so it takes the same amount off an entry model and a premium one.

How to claim in Peterborough

  1. Check that the appliance you are replacing is electric and that you are on the Ontario grid.
  2. Find a new model on the program's ENERGY STAR Most Efficient list for that appliance.
  3. Buy it new from any retailer and keep the receipt.
  4. Upload the receipt on the program page within 60 days of purchase.
  5. If your household income is under the limits, call 1-844-770-3148 about free fridges and freezers first.
