What the Home Renovation Savings program pays for windows and doors in Oshawa
We re-read the program's page and its eligibility requirements on October 3, 2026. Windows and doors are paid only inside the assessment stream, so every amount here comes with an assessment and at least two upgrades.
Windows and doors
One payment per opening in an outside wall, not per unit. A bay window with three panes in one opening earns $100.
Smallest qualifying job
Three window openings, or one door, sliding door or skylight opening, count as one qualified measure. Two windows alone earn nothing.
Home energy assessment
$600 comes back when the program is completed. Covers the cost of the first and the follow-up assessment once the program is completed.
Three or more upgrades
Windows count as one upgrade. Insulation, air sealing and a heat pump water heater are the others in this stream.
Program cap
$10,000 for homes heated by electricity, oil, propane or wood, and $5,000 for homes heated by Enbridge gas.

The program is run by Enbridge Gas and Save on Energy. Post-audits must be scheduled by November 30, 2026 and completed by December 31, 2026, or within 180 days of your first assessment, whichever comes first.
Oshawa's older houses
The 2021 Census counts 16,595 owner-occupied detached houses built before 1981 in Oshawa, with 64% of all households owning. 74% live in an eligible house type. Major repairs were reported by 6.3%, above the rate in Whitby (3.2%) just to the east. Housing age differs sharply between Oshawa and Whitby, so do not assume a neighbour's rebate experience matches yours.
Which utility you have does not change this rebate
Oshawa is served by Oshawa Power (Oshawa PUC Networks). The window and door rebate comes from the Home Renovation Savings program, which is run by Enbridge Gas and Save on Energy, so it does not depend on which local electric company bills you. It does depend on your heating fuel for the cap: $10,000 for electricity, oil, propane or wood and $5,000 for Enbridge gas.
Semis, rows and duplexes
Oshawa has 5,360 semi-detached and 6,490 row households and 3,570 households in duplexes. Semis and rows qualify. Duplexes do not, nor do stacked townhomes, so check the building type before booking the first assessment.
Budgeting the project
Add up all the openings you plan to replace, multiply by $100, and subtract that from the quote. Then add the $600 audit rebate once the program is completed. Because the audit costs money first and is returned later, treat the rebate as a refund rather than a discount at the till.
The first-assessment rule
Any qualified measure completed before the first assessment is not eligible for a rebate. An Oshawa owner who ordered windows last month and plans to book the audit afterwards would lose the window rebate. If the order is already placed, ask the supplier whether installation can wait until the audit is done, and ask the advisor how the order date affects your eligibility. Keep the order confirmation and the invoice dates, since the advisor may ask you to show when the work began.
How to claim in Oshawa
- Confirm you own the home, it has been occupied for six months and it is one of the eligible house types.
- Book the first home energy assessment with a registered energy advisor before any work starts.
- Choose at least one more upgrade to pair with the windows, and get quotes that count rough openings the way the program does.
- Count openings first and subtract the rebate from the quote.
- Have a professional install complete windows or doors with frames, keep the ENERGY STAR labels on until the follow-up assessment, and book it.
