What Ontario pays for a smart thermostat in Oakville
We re-read the three program pages on October 4, 2026. The rebate is province-wide, so the amount is the same in every city, and the page that matters is the one that says whether your home and heating qualify.
Smart thermostat
One rebate on an eligible smart thermostat, claimed with a code at checkout or with a receipt uploaded within 60 days of buying.
Who is eligible
You must be an Enbridge Gas customer heating mainly with a gas furnace or boiler, or be on the Ontario grid and use electric heat or cooling, and live in a house, semi, row, townhome or mobile home on a permanent foundation.
One per household, ever
A smart thermostat rebate, discount or free device from Enbridge, Save on Energy or Home Renovation Savings in the past rules you out.
Peak Perks
A prepaid card for joining the summer demand response program with central air or a heat pump controlled by an eligible Wi-Fi thermostat.
Energy Affordability Program
Households under the income limits get a programmable or smart thermostat, depending on the home, with other upgrades at no charge.
Cornwall excluded
Cornwall Electric customers cannot join the rebate or Peak Perks.

The rebate page states no end date, so confirm it is still open before you buy.
Owners and larger houses
59% of Oakville households live in detached homes, and 22% rent. With this mix, most households only need to read the heating test and the brand list. A household with central air also has a reason to look at Peak Perks, where the $75 card and the $20 a year come on top of the $125.
Oakville Hydro and the thermostat's job
Oakville Hydro distributes power, and Oakville postal codes begin with L, which the Energy Affordability Program lists. With a January low of -6.8°C, winters are not among the coldest in the province, so a household's use of the thermostat splits between heating and cooling.
Two ways to claim
Before you buy, press the program page's Get code button, receive a code by email and enter it at checkout on the Home Depot, Best Buy, Copeland Sensi, ecobee or Mysa website. After you buy, press Apply for rebate and upload the receipt within 60 days. Either way the thermostat has to be one of the listed models, and a Oakville homeowner who buys in a store should keep the receipt.
Adding Peak Perks
Peak Perks pays a $75 virtual prepaid Mastercard when you enroll and $20 a year after. It needs central air conditioning, or a heat pump that is part of central air, run by an eligible Wi-Fi thermostat from ecobee, Google Nest, Honeywell Home, Emerson, Trane or Alarm.com. On hot weekday afternoons the utility can adjust the setting by up to 2 degrees Celsius for no more than three hours, and you can opt out during an event. With the $125, a first year could bring in $200, though Peak Perks cannot be combined with other Ontario demand response programs.
Check your history first
The most common reason for a refusal is an earlier offer. If you ever received a thermostat, a discount or a rebate on one from Enbridge Gas, Save on Energy or Home Renovation Savings, the program treats this as a second claim. If you are not sure, look for old emails or ask the program before you buy.
How to claim in Oakville
- Check that your home type, heating and cooling match the eligibility card, and that you have not had a thermostat offer before.
- Pick one of the listed models from ecobee, Google Nest, Honeywell Home, Copeland Sensi, Mysa or Sinopé.
- Get a code from the program page and use it at checkout, or buy first and upload the receipt within 60 days.
- If you have central air, enroll the same thermostat in Peak Perks. Oakville Hydro is your local distributor, but Peak Perks is run by Save on Energy.
- If your household income is under the program limits, call 1-844-770-3148 before buying, since a free thermostat may be available.
Common questions
Does Oakville Hydro give a rebate?
We did not find a distributor thermostat rebate on the pages we read.
Is a townhouse in Oakville eligible?
Yes, row and townhomes are on the list.
Do I need an Enbridge account?
Only if gas is your heat. Electric heat or cooling on the Ontario grid also meets the test.
Can I get both rebates in one year?
Yes, the $125 and Peak Perks are separate, and Peak Perks needs central air.
