What the Home Renovation Savings program pays for windows and doors in Oakville

We re-read the program's page and its eligibility requirements on October 3, 2026. Windows and doors are paid only inside the assessment stream, so every amount here comes with an assessment and at least two upgrades.

Oakville's mix of ages

The 2021 Census counts 11,005 owner-occupied detached houses built before 1981 in Oakville and 27% of households in homes of that age. About 19% live in homes built since 2011. The older neighbourhoods are the target for window replacement. In the newer subdivisions the windows are likely to be ENERGY STAR already and not eligible for replacement rebates.

Do the sums before replacing

At $100 per opening, a house with twelve openings earns $1,200 in rebates, and a larger house with twenty earns $2,000. Those totals are our arithmetic from the program's table. Compare that to the quote, and compare it to what attic insulation (up to $1,500) or exterior wall insulation (up to $3,600) pays in the same audit. Windows are often the least generous per dollar spent, so bundle them where they add comfort.

Rented suites and secondary units

Oakville homes with a rented basement are eligible if the house was built as a single dwelling and has a central heating system, and the audit covers the whole house. Duplexes and triplexes built as multi-unit homes are not eligible. About 6% of households live in smaller apartment buildings and 12% in larger ones, both outside the program.

Planning the calendar

Plan backward from December 31, 2026, the last day for the post-audit. Add the supplier lead time, the installer's availability and the advisor's booking window. If windows are your only planned upgrade, remember you need at least two measures to take part at all.

Payment timing

After the follow-up assessment, and once the advisor has submitted every document, the rebate arrives within 60 days by cheque or within 30 days by Interac e-Transfer. The money is repaid after you have paid for the work, so the project has to be financed up front. An Oakville homeowner who plans around a December completion should expect the rebate in early 2027.

How to claim in Oakville

  1. Confirm you own the home, it has been occupied for six months and it is one of the eligible house types.
  2. Book the first home energy assessment with a registered energy advisor before any work starts.
  3. Choose at least one more upgrade to pair with the windows, and get quotes that count rough openings the way the program does.
  4. List the other upgrade you will pair with the windows before you book the audit.
  5. Have a professional install complete windows or doors with frames, keep the ENERGY STAR labels on until the follow-up assessment, and book it.
