What Ontario pays for a smart thermostat in Niagara Falls

We re-read the three program pages on October 4, 2026. The rebate is province-wide, so the amount is the same in every city, and the page that matters is the one that says whether your home and heating qualify.

The rebate page states no end date, so confirm it is still open before you buy.

A rebate that fits most of the city

66% of households live in detached houses, and 70% own. With few tall buildings, almost every household will find the house type is not the obstacle. The checks that remain are the heating test and whether anyone in the household has had a thermostat offer before.

Niagara Peninsula Energy

Niagara Peninsula Energy is the distributor, and postal codes in the city begin with L, which the Energy Affordability Program lists. Niagara Falls has the mildest January in this group at -6.1°C, so cooling is a bigger part of the year than in the north, which is where Peak Perks applies.

Adding Peak Perks

Peak Perks pays a $75 virtual prepaid Mastercard when you enroll and $20 a year after. It needs central air conditioning, or a heat pump that is part of central air, run by an eligible Wi-Fi thermostat from ecobee, Google Nest, Honeywell Home, Emerson, Trane or Alarm.com. On hot weekday afternoons the utility can adjust the setting by up to 2 degrees Celsius for no more than three hours, and you can opt out during an event. With the $125, a first year could bring in $200, though Peak Perks cannot be combined with other Ontario demand response programs.

Two ways to claim

Before you buy, press the program page's Get code button, receive a code by email and enter it at checkout on the Home Depot, Best Buy, Copeland Sensi, ecobee or Mysa website. After you buy, press Apply for rebate and upload the receipt within 60 days. Either way the thermostat has to be one of the listed models, and a Niagara Falls homeowner who buys in a store should keep the receipt.

Check your history first

The most common reason for a refusal is an earlier offer. If you ever received a thermostat, a discount or a rebate on one from Enbridge Gas, Save on Energy or Home Renovation Savings, the program treats this as a second claim. If you are not sure, look for old emails or ask the program before you buy.

How to claim in Niagara Falls

  1. Check that your home type, heating and cooling match the eligibility card, and that you have not had a thermostat offer before.
  2. Pick one of the listed models from ecobee, Google Nest, Honeywell Home, Copeland Sensi, Mysa or Sinopé.
  3. Get a code from the program page and use it at checkout, or buy first and upload the receipt within 60 days.
  4. If you have central air, enroll the same thermostat in Peak Perks. Niagara Peninsula Energy is your local distributor, but Peak Perks is run by Save on Energy.
  5. If your household income is under the program limits, call 1-844-770-3148 before buying, since a free thermostat may be available.

Does Niagara Peninsula Energy have a thermostat program?

The page asks that you live in the home. Confirm with the program.

Can I get a free thermostat?

If your income is under the Energy Affordability Program limit for your household size.
