What the Home Renovation Savings program pays for windows and doors in Niagara Falls

We re-read the program's page and its eligibility requirements on October 3, 2026. Windows and doors are paid only inside the assessment stream, so every amount here comes with an assessment and at least two upgrades.

Open

Windows and doors

$100 per rough opening

One payment per opening in an outside wall, not per unit. A bay window with three panes in one opening earns $100.

Single-family homes
Open

Smallest qualifying job

3 windows, or 1 door

Three window openings, or one door, sliding door or skylight opening, count as one qualified measure. Two windows alone earn nothing.

Home energy assessment

Refunded on completion

$600 comes back when the program is completed. Covers the cost of the first and the follow-up assessment once the program is completed.

Open

Three or more upgrades

+$500 bonus

Windows count as one upgrade. Insulation, air sealing and a heat pump water heater are the others in this stream.

Program cap

Set by your heating fuel

$10,000 for homes heated by electricity, oil, propane or wood, and $5,000 for homes heated by Enbridge gas.

The program is run by Enbridge Gas and Save on Energy. Post-audits must be scheduled by November 30, 2026 and completed by December 31, 2026, or within 180 days of your first assessment, whichever comes first.

Niagara Falls housing

The 2021 Census counts 13,845 owner-occupied detached houses built before 1981 in Niagara Falls. 66% of households live in detached houses, the second-highest share in our set after Whitby, and 70% own. Only 4% live in tall apartment buildings. That leaves a larger eligible pool than in most Ontario cities. Major repairs were reported by 5.4%.

Your electric utility is NPEI

Niagara Falls is served by Niagara Peninsula Energy, not Alectra, as some older pages said. The window rebate does not depend on the utility, but your heating fuel sets the cap: $10,000 for electricity, oil, propane or wood and $5,000 for Enbridge gas.

Mild winters, still worth sealing

The January average low is -6.1°C, the mildest of the Ontario cities in our data, and the record low from 2015 to 2024 was -22.6°C. Windows matter less for heating here than in the north, but old units also affect comfort and noise. If the audit finds little heat loss, spend on the larger rebates first.

Tourism-area homes

Seasonal or short-term rental use does not appear in the program's eligibility rules as we read them, but the home must be owned, have six months of occupancy and be heated mainly by one of the listed fuels. Ask the energy advisor how the program treats a home with part-year use before you pay for the audit.

If you take part more than once

A household that has finished the assessment stream can apply again, but it needs a new pair of assessments, gets no second $600 audit rebate and is limited by the same total cap, $5,000 for gas homes or $10,000 for other heating fuels, counting the first round. An owner who does windows this year and insulation later therefore has a shared ceiling, not two separate ones. Keep a record of what the first round paid, since the second round is limited by it.

How to claim in Niagara Falls

  1. Confirm you own the home, it has been occupied for six months and it is one of the eligible house types.
  2. Book the first home energy assessment with a registered energy advisor before any work starts.
  3. Choose at least one more upgrade to pair with the windows, and get quotes that count rough openings the way the program does.
  4. Ask the advisor about seasonal or part-year use before paying for the audit.
  5. Have a professional install complete windows or doors with frames, keep the ENERGY STAR labels on until the follow-up assessment, and book it.
