What Ontario pays for a smart thermostat in Cambridge

We re-read the three program pages on October 4, 2026. The rebate is province-wide, so the amount is the same in every city, and the page that matters is the one that says whether your home and heating qualify.

A city of houses and low-rise apartments

Cambridge has few tall buildings: 6% of households live in five or more storeys, and 14% in smaller apartment buildings. 57% live in detached houses. The rebate fits most of the city, so the main checks are the heating system, the thermostat model and any earlier offer.

GrandBridge Energy

GrandBridge Energy distributes electricity here. The Energy Affordability Program asks for the primary or secondary account holder, and Cambridge postal codes begin with N, which is on the program's list of eligible letters. The $125 rebate does not depend on the distributor.

Six brands, specific models

The rebate covers ecobee, Google Nest, Honeywell Home, Copeland Sensi, Mysa and Sinopé, and only the model numbers the program page lists for each. A thermostat from the same brand that is not on the list earns nothing, so match the box to the page before you pay. Check that your furnace or heat pump works with the model as well, which the maker's compatibility checker will tell you.

Adding Peak Perks

Peak Perks pays a $75 virtual prepaid Mastercard when you enroll and $20 a year after. It needs central air conditioning, or a heat pump that is part of central air, run by an eligible Wi-Fi thermostat from ecobee, Google Nest, Honeywell Home, Emerson, Trane or Alarm.com. On hot weekday afternoons the utility can adjust the setting by up to 2 degrees Celsius for no more than three hours, and you can opt out during an event. With the $125, a first year could bring in $200, though Peak Perks cannot be combined with other Ontario demand response programs.

If you rent

The rebate page does not say owners only. It asks that you live in an eligible home type and that either gas or electric heating or cooling applies. In Cambridge, 31% of households rent. A tenant should still get the landlord's agreement before replacing the thermostat on the wall and should ask whether it goes back when they leave.

How to claim in Cambridge

  1. Check that your home type, heating and cooling match the eligibility card, and that you have not had a thermostat offer before.
  2. Pick one of the listed models from ecobee, Google Nest, Honeywell Home, Copeland Sensi, Mysa or Sinopé.
  3. Get a code from the program page and use it at checkout, or buy first and upload the receipt within 60 days.
  4. If you have central air, enroll the same thermostat in Peak Perks. GrandBridge Energy is your local distributor, but Peak Perks is run by Save on Energy.
  5. If your household income is under the program limits, call 1-844-770-3148 before buying, since a free thermostat may be available.
