What Ontario pays for a smart thermostat in Burlington
We re-read the three program pages on October 4, 2026. The rebate is province-wide, so the amount is the same in every city, and the page that matters is the one that says whether your home and heating qualify.
Smart thermostat
One rebate on an eligible smart thermostat, claimed with a code at checkout or with a receipt uploaded within 60 days of buying.
Who is eligible
You must be an Enbridge Gas customer heating mainly with a gas furnace or boiler, or be on the Ontario grid and use electric heat or cooling, and live in a house, semi, row, townhome or mobile home on a permanent foundation.
One per household, ever
A smart thermostat rebate, discount or free device from Enbridge, Save on Energy or Home Renovation Savings in the past rules you out.
Peak Perks
A prepaid card for joining the summer demand response program with central air or a heat pump controlled by an eligible Wi-Fi thermostat.
Energy Affordability Program
Households under the income limits get a programmable or smart thermostat, depending on the home, with other upgrades at no charge.
Cornwall excluded
Cornwall Electric customers cannot join the rebate or Peak Perks.

Eligible houses and the apartment minority
About 73% of Burlington households live in a house type the program covers. 18% live in buildings of five or more storeys, a larger share than in most mid-size cities on our list. A resident of one of those buildings is outside the rebate and outside Peak Perks if the building runs central air from a plant.
Burlington Hydro
Burlington Hydro is the local distributor. It does not issue the rebate, and Peak Perks is run by Save on Energy. A household with central air has a real use for Peak Perks, which pays $75 on enrollment and $20 a year after.
Who here can claim the $125
The program pays for single detached, semi-detached, row, townhome and mobile homes on a permanent foundation. In Burlington about 73% of 73,180 households live in one of those. If yours is an apartment or a duplex unit, this rebate is not written for you, and the Energy Affordability Program is the route to ask about.
The free route
The Energy Affordability Program covers postal codes beginning K, L, M, N and P, which includes Burlington. Income limits for comprehensive support run from $48,220 for one person to $96,439 for four and $107,823 for five or more. Owners and renters who hold the utility account can apply, by phone at 1-844-770-3148 or online. The program says it is fully funded and accepting applications.
If your home heats with an Enbridge gas furnace or boiler, also look at Enbridge's Home Winterproofing Program. It gives free insulation and draft proofing, and anyone who gets one of those can also get a smart thermostat installed. The before-tax income limits run from $48,220 for one person up to $127,576 for seven or more, and people on programs such as Ontario Works or the Guaranteed Income Supplement can qualify too. Apply online or call 1-844-770-3148. If your home heats with electricity, apply to the Energy Affordability Program instead.
The size of the saving
The rebate is a flat $125, so it takes the same amount off a cheap thermostat and an expensive one. It does not guarantee a lower bill. How much a smart thermostat changes your energy use depends on your schedule, your system and how you set it, and we have no program figure to quote for that.
How to claim in Burlington
- Check that your home type, heating and cooling match the eligibility card, and that you have not had a thermostat offer before.
- Pick one of the listed models from ecobee, Google Nest, Honeywell Home, Copeland Sensi, Mysa or Sinopé.
- Get a code from the program page and use it at checkout, or buy first and upload the receipt within 60 days.
- If you have central air, enroll the same thermostat in Peak Perks. Burlington Hydro is your local distributor, but Peak Perks is run by Save on Energy.
- If your household income is under the program limits, call 1-844-770-3148 before buying, since a free thermostat may be available.
Common questions
Does Burlington pay anything on top of the provincial rebate?
We did not find a city thermostat rebate.
Is a Burlington condo eligible?
The rebate page lists houses, semis, rows, townhomes and mobile homes, so a condo apartment is not covered.
Can I do Peak Perks without the rebate?
Yes, they are separate programs with separate rules.
What does Peak Perks do to my thermostat?
On summer weekday afternoons it can adjust the setting by up to 2°C for up to three hours, and you can opt out.
