What the Home Renovation Savings program pays for windows and doors in Burlington

We re-read the program's page and its eligibility requirements on October 3, 2026. Windows and doors are paid only inside the assessment stream, so every amount here comes with an assessment and at least two upgrades.

The program is run by Enbridge Gas and Save on Energy. Post-audits must be scheduled by November 30, 2026 and completed by December 31, 2026, or within 180 days of your first assessment, whichever comes first.

Housing in Burlington

The 2021 Census counts 19,345 owner-occupied detached houses built before 1981 in Burlington. 50% of households live in detached houses and 73% in an eligible house type. 4.1% report needing major repairs. Apartments in buildings of five or more storeys account for 18% of households and are outside the program.

Climate and comfort

Burlington's January average low is -7.2°C and the record low from 2015 to 2024 was -26.2°C. That is milder than Ottawa or Barrie. The rebate does not depend on climate, but replacement windows should be an ENERGY STAR certified model suited to your climate zone, so ask the supplier to show the certified rating.

Single upgrade or bundle?

The window rebate is not available alone. It needs at least two qualifying measures in the assessment stream. If your main goal is a heat pump, the separate stream pays up to $7,500 for a cold-climate air-source model without an audit, so the audit bundle is a separate decision.

Do not remove labels

The ENERGY STAR labels have to stay on the new windows and doors until after the post-audit. They are easy to peel off during installation or cleaning. Tell whoever works on the house to leave them, and take photos of each label as soon as the windows go in.

Heating fuel and the cap

Your total rebate under the assessment stream is capped at $5,000 for a home heated by Enbridge gas and $10,000 for homes heated by electricity, oil, propane or wood, judged at the time of the audits. A Burlington house that burns gas and plans a heat pump later should read the heat pump rules too, since the heat pump stream has its own requirements and the two can be done by the same household at different times.

How to claim in Burlington

  1. Confirm you own the home, it has been occupied for six months and it is one of the eligible house types.
  2. Book the first home energy assessment with a registered energy advisor before any work starts.
  3. Choose at least one more upgrade to pair with the windows, and get quotes that count rough openings the way the program does.
  4. Ask the supplier to show the ENERGY STAR rating for your climate zone.
  5. Have a professional install complete windows or doors with frames, keep the ENERGY STAR labels on until the follow-up assessment, and book it.
