What the Home Renovation Savings program pays for windows and doors in Barrie
We re-read the program's page and its eligibility requirements on October 3, 2026. Windows and doors are paid only inside the assessment stream, so every amount here comes with an assessment and at least two upgrades.
Windows and doors
One payment per opening in an outside wall, not per unit. A bay window with three panes in one opening earns $100.
Smallest qualifying job
Three window openings, or one door, sliding door or skylight opening, count as one qualified measure. Two windows alone earn nothing.
Home energy assessment
$600 comes back when the program is completed. Covers the cost of the first and the follow-up assessment once the program is completed.
Three or more upgrades
Windows count as one upgrade. Insulation, air sealing and a heat pump water heater are the others in this stream.
Program cap
$10,000 for homes heated by electricity, oil, propane or wood, and $5,000 for homes heated by Enbridge gas.

The program is run by Enbridge Gas and Save on Energy. Post-audits must be scheduled by November 30, 2026 and completed by December 31, 2026, or within 180 days of your first assessment, whichever comes first.
Barrie is colder than the GTA
The January average low is -10.1°C and the coldest recorded day in 2015 to 2024 was -30.3°C, colder than Toronto (-7.1°C) or Hamilton. A drafty window costs more to heat here than in Hamilton. The Census counts 7,105 owner-occupied detached houses built before 1981 in Barrie, out of 55,315 households.
A growing city with mixed ages
About 29% of Barrie households live in homes built before 1981, and about 10% in homes built since 2011. Homes in the middle, from the 1980s and 1990s, are the ones whose windows may be at the end of their life. 68% of households own. Major repairs were reported by 4.6%.
Apartments and low-rise buildings
Barrie has 12% of households in apartments in buildings with fewer than five storeys, and 3,555 households in duplexes. Duplexes, low-rise apartments and triplexes are not eligible for the program, even when the owner lives in the building. Check your building type against the program's list before booking an assessment.
Two things that catch people out
First, the program requires a professional installer, so DIY window installs are not eligible. Second, the post-audit has to be completed by December 31, 2026, so a window order with a long lead time can push you past the deadline. Ask the supplier for the delivery date before you book the first assessment.
Bundling with attic work
Because the audit stream pays more for insulation than for windows, a Barrie house with a thin attic and old windows usually does best by pricing both together. Insulation can pay up to $1,500 for an attic and up to $3,600 for exterior walls, and the $500 bonus arrives when you complete three upgrades. Treat the window rebate as the piece that completes the bundle, and ask the advisor whether the audit supports it.
How to claim in Barrie
- Confirm you own the home, it has been occupied for six months and it is one of the eligible house types.
- Book the first home energy assessment with a registered energy advisor before any work starts.
- Choose at least one more upgrade to pair with the windows, and get quotes that count rough openings the way the program does.
- Ask the supplier for a delivery date before booking the first assessment.
- Have a professional install complete windows or doors with frames, keep the ENERGY STAR labels on until the follow-up assessment, and book it.
