What the Home Renovation Savings program pays for windows and doors in Richmond Hill
We re-read the program's page and its eligibility requirements on October 3, 2026. Windows and doors are paid only inside the assessment stream, so every amount here comes with an assessment and at least two upgrades.
Windows and doors
One payment per opening in an outside wall, not per unit. A bay window with three panes in one opening earns $100.
Smallest qualifying job
Three window openings, or one door, sliding door or skylight opening, count as one qualified measure. Two windows alone earn nothing.
Home energy assessment
$600 comes back when the program is completed. Covers the cost of the first and the follow-up assessment once the program is completed.
Three or more upgrades
Windows count as one upgrade. Insulation, air sealing and a heat pump water heater are the others in this stream.
Program cap
$10,000 for homes heated by electricity, oil, propane or wood, and $5,000 for homes heated by Enbridge gas.

The program is run by Enbridge Gas and Save on Energy. Post-audits must be scheduled by November 30, 2026 and completed by December 31, 2026, or within 180 days of your first assessment, whichever comes first.
The eligible pool
The 2021 Census counts 4,310 owner-occupied detached houses built before 1981 in Richmond Hill, and 76% of households live in an eligible house type. Another 19% live in apartments in buildings of five or more storeys. The program covers only the first group. Major repairs were reported by 3.7%.
Shared frames and bay windows
The program pays by rough opening. In a Richmond Hill house with a front bay, a three-panel unit in a single opening earns $100. A wall with three separate windows in three openings earns $300. When quotes arrive, ask each company to list how many separate openings it is replacing, because that is the number the audit checks.
How the bundle changes the picture
If the audit recommends attic insulation and air sealing as well, finishing three upgrades earns the $500 bonus. The windows then add $100 per opening to a package that already clears the two-upgrade minimum. Air sealing requires the home to reach a specific air tightness target, so the program suggests choosing it third or later.
Financing the project
We did not find a Richmond Hill or York Region loan for window upgrades in our verified list. Ask your lender about a home equity option, and ask the energy advisor whether any provincial or federal programs for your household income apply. The Energy Affordability Program from Save on Energy covers income-qualified households.
Working with the energy advisor
The audits must be done by a registered energy advisor licensed by Natural Resources Canada who works for an authorized service organization. The program recommends using the same advisor for both audits. Ask early whether they can book the follow-up soon after your installer finishes, because the advisor controls the timeline for the rebate paperwork and the post-audit deadline of December 31, 2026.
How to claim in Richmond Hill
- Confirm you own the home, it has been occupied for six months and it is one of the eligible house types.
- Book the first home energy assessment with a registered energy advisor before any work starts.
- Choose at least one more upgrade to pair with the windows, and get quotes that count rough openings the way the program does.
- Ask each installer to list rough openings, not units.
- Have a professional install complete windows or doors with frames, keep the ENERGY STAR labels on until the follow-up assessment, and book it.
