What the Home Renovation Savings program pays for windows and doors in Kitchener
We re-read the program's page and its eligibility requirements on October 3, 2026. Windows and doors are paid only inside the assessment stream, so every amount here comes with an assessment and at least two upgrades.
Windows and doors
One payment per opening in an outside wall, not per unit. A bay window with three panes in one opening earns $100.
Smallest qualifying job
Three window openings, or one door, sliding door or skylight opening, count as one qualified measure. Two windows alone earn nothing.
Home energy assessment
$600 comes back when the program is completed. Covers the cost of the first and the follow-up assessment once the program is completed.
Three or more upgrades
Windows count as one upgrade. Insulation, air sealing and a heat pump water heater are the others in this stream.
Program cap
$10,000 for homes heated by electricity, oil, propane or wood, and $5,000 for homes heated by Enbridge gas.

The program is run by Enbridge Gas and Save on Energy. Post-audits must be scheduled by November 30, 2026 and completed by December 31, 2026, or within 180 days of your first assessment, whichever comes first.
Kitchener's housing in numbers
The 2021 Census counts 99,815 households in Kitchener. 47% live in single detached houses, 66% in an eligible house type, and 60% own, a lower owner rate than Brampton or Markham. Roughly 21,465 are owner-occupied detached houses built before 1981. 15% of households live in buildings of five or more storeys, and 15% in smaller apartment buildings, none of which the program covers.
RetrofitWR: coaching for everyone, loans for some
The Region of Waterloo's Retrofit Waterloo Region offers a free Energy Coach to homeowners anywhere in the Region. Its loan, up to $40,000 at 2.5% fixed over 10 or 15 years, is repaid on the GrandBridge Energy bill and is limited to GrandBridge customers in Cambridge and North Dumfries. Kitchener and Waterloo are served by Enova Power, so the loan does not reach Kitchener homes. The coaching does, and it is useful for deciding whether windows belong in your bundle.
What the program pays and when
Windows pay $100 per rough opening, with a minimum of three window openings or one door-type opening. The audit rebate is $600, and three upgrades earn $500 more. Everything has to be done with the post-audit complete by December 31, 2026, and the post-audit scheduled by November 30. Kitchener homeowners booking in October should treat the window order date as the first deadline.
Semis and rows
Kitchener has 5,530 semi-detached and 12,855 row households. Count the rough openings first, then compare the rebate to the quote.
Questions for the Energy Coach
If you book the free coaching, bring three things: the age of the house, your heating fuel and the number of windows you are thinking of replacing. Ask the coach which of the program's upgrades the home needs first, whether the windows should be on the list at all, and what order the work should go in. Coaching is advice rather than a rebate, so it will not replace the first home energy assessment the program requires.
How to claim in Kitchener
- Confirm you own the home, it has been occupied for six months and it is one of the eligible house types.
- Book the first home energy assessment with a registered energy advisor before any work starts.
- Choose at least one more upgrade to pair with the windows, and get quotes that count rough openings the way the program does.
- Book a free Energy Coach session with the Region if you want a second opinion on the bundle.
- Have a professional install complete windows or doors with frames, keep the ENERGY STAR labels on until the follow-up assessment, and book it.
