What Ontario pays for new appliances in Kitchener
We re-read the program's appliance page on October 4, 2026. The rebates are province-wide, so the amounts are the same in every city, and the rules about what you replace and which model you buy are what decide a claim.
Heat pump clothes dryer
The largest of the six appliance rebates, for a new ENERGY STAR Most Efficient heat pump dryer replacing an electric dryer.
Induction cooktop or range
For a new induction cooktop or range on the program's product list, replacing an existing electric one.
Washing machine
For a new ENERGY STAR Most Efficient washer on the program list.
Fridge
For a new ENERGY STAR Most Efficient refrigerator replacing an existing electric one.
Freezer
For a new ENERGY STAR Most Efficient freezer on the list.
Dishwasher
For a new ENERGY STAR Most Efficient dishwasher on the list.
Who can claim
A residential customer on the Ontario grid with an existing electric appliance in need of replacing. Cornwall Electric customers are excluded.
Free route
Income-qualified households can get energy-efficient fridges and freezers at no charge, along with other upgrades.

Rebates and a mixed housing stock
47% of Kitchener households live in detached houses and 15% in buildings of five or more storeys. The appliance page names no home type, so the same rules apply across the mix. The common reasons for a refusal are a model that is not on the list and a purchase more than 60 days old.

Enova Power distributes power and Kitchener postal codes begin with N, which the Energy Affordability Program lists. Our lookup shows Enova Power as the distributor, so check your own bill.
Replace, do not add
The program page asks for an existing electric appliance in need of replacing. A new fridge to go in a spare corner, or an induction range where the kitchen had no range, is not a replacement. If you are switching from gas to an electric appliance, the page does not say whether that counts, so ask the program before you buy. Kitchener households that already cook on an electric range are the clearest fit for the induction rebate.
Most Efficient, not just ENERGY STAR
The rebate is for ENERGY STAR Most Efficient models, which the page describes as going beyond standard ENERGY STAR requirements. A fridge with the ordinary ENERGY STAR mark may not qualify. Each appliance has its own product list linked from the program page, so find the model number there before you pay, whether you buy in Kitchener or online.
How many can I claim?
The page states no limit per household and no end date. That does not mean unlimited funding, and the program can change. If you plan to replace a washer and a dryer, or a fridge and a freezer, get them on the program's lists first and keep every receipt, since each claim is separate and has its own 60-day window.
What kind of home
Unlike the thermostat rebate, the appliance page lists no home type. It asks for a residential customer on the Ontario grid. It does not address condos or apartments directly, so a Kitchener condo owner or tenant should confirm with the program. 40% of Kitchener households rent, and a tenant should ask the landlord before swapping a fridge or range that came with the unit.
How to claim in Kitchener
- Check that the appliance you are replacing is electric and that you are on the Ontario grid.
- Find a new model on the program's ENERGY STAR Most Efficient list for that appliance.
- Buy it new from any retailer and keep the receipt.
- Upload the receipt on the program page within 60 days of purchase.
- If your household income is under the limits, call 1-844-770-3148 about free fridges and freezers first.
