Brampton has one of the younger housing stocks in this group: only 23% of its 182,470 households live in a home built before 1981. That changes how worthwhile window replacement is.

What the Home Renovation Savings program pays for windows and doors in Brampton

We re-read the program's page and its eligibility requirements on October 3, 2026. Windows and doors are paid only inside the assessment stream, so every amount here comes with an assessment and at least two upgrades.

A newer housing stock

Brampton's pre-1981 share (23%) is among the lowest of the Ontario cities we cover, and about 21% of households live in homes built since 2011. 79% live in an eligible house type, 78% own, and only 3.3% report a home needing major repairs. Many homes will already have newer windows, so check the age and rating of what you have before paying for replacements.

Where it still helps

The Census counts 15,865 owner-occupied detached houses built before 1981 in Brampton. For those, older windows can be an upgrade worth bundling. Because new windows must be ENERGY STAR certified and replace non-certified ones, replacing windows that already carry an ENERGY STAR label is not eligible.

Semis, rows and secondary suites

Brampton has 24,845 semi-detached and 23,255 row households. A house built as one dwelling that gained a suite later remains eligible, and the audit must cover the whole home with a central heating system. A home built as a two-unit dwelling is not eligible.

What counts as a complete replacement

A full window or door with its frame can be fitted inside the existing frame, which keeps costs down and avoids disturbing the interior trim. New glass only, a new sash, or a new door slab without a frame is not eligible. When you compare Brampton quotes, make sure each line item names a complete unit with frame, because a cheaper glass-only quote will not earn the $100 per opening.

Paperwork you will need

At the post-audit the energy advisor needs the invoices for the audits and the upgrades, plus a copy of your property tax bill. Keep the ENERGY STAR labels on every new window and door until the advisor has finished. Peeling them off early is a common reason a claim is questioned, and a label that cannot be found is hard to replace.

How to claim in Brampton

  1. Confirm you own the home, it has been occupied for six months and it is one of the eligible house types.
  2. Book the first home energy assessment with a registered energy advisor before any work starts.
  3. Choose at least one more upgrade to pair with the windows, and get quotes that count rough openings the way the program does.
  4. Ask the advisor whether a secondary suite changes your eligibility.
  5. Have a professional install complete windows or doors with frames, keep the ENERGY STAR labels on until the follow-up assessment, and book it.

Common questions

Is Brampton too new for the window rebate?

Not necessarily. The Census counts 15,865 owner-occupied detached houses built before 1981 that may still have older windows.

Does a basement apartment disqualify me?

Not if the house was originally built as a single dwelling and has a central heating system.

Does a new ENERGY STAR window qualify if it replaces an old ENERGY STAR window?

No. The program requires replacing non-ENERGY STAR models.

What is the cap?

$10,000 for electricity, oil, propane or wood, $5,000 for Enbridge gas.
