Long Beach Home Energy Rebates 2026

Long Beach splits its energy between two utilities. Southern California Edison (SCE) supplies the electricity and the City's own Long Beach Utilities supplies the gas. That split shapes which rebates you can use, and none of the heat pump or water heater rebates that Glendale, Burbank and Los Angeles offer apply here. We read each program page on October 2, 2026.

Quick quiz: home energy in Los Angeles

Questions about Los Angeles, from the data behind this page. Tap an answer to see why.

1. Which utility's programs apply to our Los Angeles rebate guide?

LADWP is the utility we use for Los Angeles. Rebates often depend on who supplies your power or gas, so check yours first.

2. What is a typical January night low in Los Angeles?

Our weather sample for Los Angeles (2015-2024) shows an average January low of 46 °F. Cold-climate heat pumps are tested at low temperatures, so check the rating at your coldest days, not just the average.

3. About how many peak sun hours a day does Los Angeles get on average?

Our 2020-2024 sunshine sample for Los Angeles averages about 5.3 peak sun hours a day. Fewer hours means less solar power per panel, so the size of the system matters.

4. Across the heat pump programs we list for Los Angeles, the top 'up to' amount is:

Our summary for Los Angeles: Up to $2,500/ton (LADWP Consumer Rebate Program). The amount you get depends on your home, income and utility, so use the calculator.

Gas rebates point the other way

Long Beach Utilities' own rebates are for efficient natural gas products. If you plan to move from gas to electric, these will not help, and they do not stack with a heat pump purchase. If your gas appliance is failing and you are staying with gas, they are real money. Decide on the fuel first, then look at the rebate.

Why heat pump rebates are thin here

SCE's rebates and savings page lists a bill assistance section and a Marketplace section, and the Marketplace names smart thermostat incentives, Golden State Rebates retail coupons, the Switch Is On site and a Home Performance Plus program for homes in disadvantaged or low-income communities. It does not list a direct SCE rebate for a heat pump or heat pump water heater. The state programs that did fund those, TECH Clean California and the federal HEEHRA program, are fully reserved and take new requests on hold only. That is why Long Beach looks quiet next to the cities with their own electric utilities.

Your two utilities: SCE and Long Beach Utilities

SCE bills you for electricity, and its programs are the same across its territory, so they also apply in Santa Monica. Long Beach Utilities is the City's gas, water and sewer utility, and it runs the gas rebates through its Energy Efficiency Rebate Program. It asks for a finalized permit on most products and says tankless water heaters and pool heaters may need a gas meter upgrade first. Its permit center is the Long Beach Community Development Department Permit Center at (562) 570-7648, and its program line is (562) 570-5991.

Income-qualified help is the bigger lever

If your household qualifies, SCE's income-qualified programs matter more than any single rebate. Charge Ready Home pays up to $4,200 for a panel upgrade when you install a Level 2 charger, for households below 80% of area median income or on an assistance program. SCE's Energy Savings Assistance program offers no-cost upgrades that can include a heat pump water heater, appliances and weatherization. Home Performance Plus offers a no-cost assessment and enhanced rebates in disadvantaged or low-income communities, for single-family homes and buildings up to four units. Ask SCE which of these your address qualifies for.

Climate in Long Beach

Long Beach's average January low over 2015 to 2024 was 8.2°C (about 47°F), with a coldest recorded day of 1.5°C. Heating needs are small, so a heat pump here is more about replacing the air conditioner and the gas furnace in one step than about cold-weather performance. If you buy one without a rebate, size it carefully and ask for a written load calculation.

Money that ended or is full

The federal 25C and 25D tax credits ended after December 31, 2025. TECH Clean California and the federal HEEHRA program are fully reserved and take new requests on hold only. South Coast AQMD's GO ZERO single-family rebate resumed accepting applications on August 28, 2026 with limited funding, according to the City of Santa Monica's incentives page, so it may help a Long Beach household too. We did not read SCAQMD's own terms, so check the amount and your eligibility with them.

How to start

  1. Look at your electric and gas bills to confirm SCE and Long Beach Utilities.
  2. Decide your fuel first: staying with gas opens the Long Beach Utilities rebates, going electric does not.
  3. If your household may qualify, ask SCE about Energy Savings Assistance, Charge Ready Home and Home Performance Plus.
  4. For a thermostat, check your model against SCE's eligible list and enroll in the Smart Energy Program for the $75 credit.
  5. For gas appliances, buy in 2026, get any required permit finalized, and mail the application by December 31, 2026.
