What CleanPowerSF pays in 2026

Bill credits, not cheques
CleanPowerSF pays $50 off your bill each month. A heat pump water heater earns 24 of them, which is $1,200, and CARE or FERA customers get 12 more. Credits stop if you move, so the program favors people who stay. Because the money arrives slowly, a project quote that counts the full $1,200 as an up-front discount is wrong. Ask your installer how they treat it.
The rules that matter
You must be a residential CleanPowerSF customer, comply with the Department of Building Inspection's permit rules, use a model from the approved products list, and apply online. For hot water and heating, you must also be on an electrification rate such as EV2-A or E-ELEC. The City takes plumbing and mechanical permits through PermitSF, where contractors need an eligible license.
What San Francisco does not offer
We found no CleanPowerSF rebate for insulation, windows or an EV charger for homes, though it lists an EV Charge SF program for financing charging infrastructure with up to $120,000 in incentives and a $1,000 e-bike coupon for 1,000 customers. Money outside CleanPowerSF
BayREN's EASE Home program pays 80% of weatherization costs for income-qualified PG&E customers in the Bay Area, and helps with applications (BayREN). The federal 25C and 25D tax credits ended after December 31, 2025. TECH Clean California and the federal HEEHRA program are fully reserved for single-family homes and take new requests on hold only.
How San Francisco compares
San Francisco's credits are smaller and slower than the cash amounts in Glendale (Glendale), LADWP territory (Los Angeles) and SMUD territory (Sacramento). Its strength is that it rewards a whole-home switch, adding $300 when the gas meter comes out. San Francisco's average January low over 2015 to 2024 was 7.8°C, so heating needs are small.

Common questions
Who supplies electricity in San Francisco?
CleanPowerSF, run by the SFPUC, supplies electricity, and PG&E delivers it. Its rebates are separate from PG&E's.
Which CleanPowerSF credit is largest?
Heat pump water heaters and heat pump heating each earn up to $1,200. A gas meter removal adds $300.
Are the credits paid all at once?
No. They are $50 a month on your bill, for 24 months for hot water and heating, and shorter periods for cooking and dryers.
Is there a solar rebate in San Francisco?
GoSolarSF now pays only low-income customers. The CleanPowerSF battery program, up to $3,750, is marked coming soon.
Can I get help if my income is limited?
CARE and FERA customers get 12 extra months of credits on hot water and heating, and BayREN's EASE Home pays 80% of weatherization for income-qualified PG&E customers.
