What the Home Renovation Savings program pays for windows and doors in Timmins

We re-read the program's page and its eligibility requirements on October 3, 2026. Windows and doors are paid only inside the assessment stream, so every amount here comes with an assessment and at least two upgrades.

Program cap

Set by your heating fuel

$10,000 for homes heated by electricity, oil, propane or wood, and $5,000 for homes heated by Enbridge gas.

The program is run by Enbridge Gas and Save on Energy. Post-audits must be scheduled by November 30, 2026 and completed by December 31, 2026, or within 180 days of your first assessment, whichever comes first.

The coldest city we cover

The January average low is -18.6°C and the 2015 to 2024 record was -39.3°C. Heat loss through old windows is a bigger bill here than anywhere else in our Ontario set. The 2021 Census counts 7,125 owner-occupied detached houses built before 1981 in Timmins. 65% of households live in detached houses, 78% in an eligible house type and 67% own.

Repairs and the order of work

8.0% of Timmins households reported needing major repairs, the highest share among the Ontario cities we cover. If your house is one of them, book the first assessment before any work begins. The program does not pay for measures completed before that assessment.

Hydro One and your heating fuel

Timmins is served by Hydro One. The window rebate does not depend on the electric utility, but your heating fuel sets the cap, $10,000 for electricity, oil, propane or wood and $5,000 for Enbridge gas.

Remote scheduling

The audits must be done by a registered energy advisor from an authorized service organization. In smaller northern centres, booking a visit may take longer, and the program's deadline for completing the post-audit is December 31, 2026. Ask early, and ask what travel fees apply.

Free help for lower incomes

The Energy Affordability Program from Save on Energy offers free upgrades to income-qualified households. If your household qualifies, ask about it before you pay for an audit.

Payment and paperwork

Once the follow-up assessment is complete and the advisor has submitted everything, the rebate arrives within 60 days by cheque or within 30 days by Interac e-Transfer. Keep the invoices for the audits and each upgrade and a copy of the property tax bill. The ENERGY STAR labels stay on the new windows and doors until the post-audit is finished.

New builds and recent work

A newly built home must have six months of occupancy before it can join, and any qualifying work done before the first assessment is not eligible. If you have already begun any measure, speak to the advisor before booking, because completed measures do not count.

Getting paid in Timmins

Timmins owners choose between a cheque (within 60 days) and an Interac e-Transfer (within 30 days) when they sign the program paperwork. Either one comes only after the advisor submits the complete file, so gather the audit invoices, the upgrade invoices and your tax bill early, because a missing document delays everyone.

How to claim in Timmins

  1. Confirm you own the home, it has been occupied for six months and it is one of the eligible house types.
  2. Book the first home energy assessment with a registered energy advisor before any work starts.
  3. Choose at least one more upgrade to pair with the windows, and get quotes that count rough openings the way the program does.
  4. Ask about advisor availability and travel fees before paying for the audit.
  5. Have a professional install complete windows or doors with frames, keep the ENERGY STAR labels on until the follow-up assessment, and book it.
