What the Home Renovation Savings program pays for windows and doors in Kingston

We re-read the program's page and its eligibility requirements on October 3, 2026. Windows and doors are paid only inside the assessment stream, so every amount here comes with an assessment and at least two upgrades.

Program cap

Set by your heating fuel

$10,000 for homes heated by electricity, oil, propane or wood, and $5,000 for homes heated by Enbridge gas.

The program is run by Enbridge Gas and Save on Energy. Post-audits must be scheduled by November 30, 2026 and completed by December 31, 2026, or within 180 days of your first assessment, whichever comes first.

A renter-heavy city

The 2021 Census counts 57,835 households in Kingston, with 56% owning and 44% renting. Only 63% live in an eligible house type. 17% live in apartment buildings of five or more storeys and 16% in smaller buildings, and 2,190 households live in duplexes. Many Kingston buildings are therefore outside the program. If you rent, the landlord owns the openings and must apply.

Older stone and brick houses

53% of Kingston households live in homes built before 1981, and 12,990 are owner-occupied detached houses from that period. Major repairs were reported by 6.5%. An older house with heritage features may have windows that are worth restoring rather than replacing, and restoration does not qualify for the rebate. The program pays only for complete ENERGY STAR certified replacement units.

Landlords who live in the building

An owner who lives in a house with a rented room can apply if the house was built as a single dwelling and has a central heating system. A building that was built as multiple units, including duplexes and triplexes, is not eligible even when the owner lives there.

Cold winters near the lake

The January average low is -9.0°C and the 2015 to 2024 record was -29.2°C. Utilities Kingston is the electric utility, but it does not change the window rebate. Heating fuel does matter for the cap: $10,000 for electricity, oil, propane or wood and $5,000 for Enbridge gas.

What the audits cost and return

The program pays $600 back to offset the cost of the initial and the follow-up assessments, once the program is complete. The audit price is set by the service organization, so ask what it charges before you book. For an owner with a smaller project, such as three window openings, the audit cost and the paperwork can be a large share of the benefit, so consider whether a larger bundle makes more sense.

How to claim in Kingston

  1. Confirm you own the home, it has been occupied for six months and it is one of the eligible house types.
  2. Book the first home energy assessment with a registered energy advisor before any work starts.
  3. Choose at least one more upgrade to pair with the windows, and get quotes that count rough openings the way the program does.
  4. Check whether the building was built as a single dwelling.
  5. Have a professional install complete windows or doors with frames, keep the ENERGY STAR labels on until the follow-up assessment, and book it.
