What heat pump rebates pay in Kelowna
We re-read FortisBC's heat pump rebate page on October 3, 2026. These amounts are for FortisBC electric customers replacing electric heat. If your power bill comes from BC Hydro, BC Hydro's rebate applies instead.

A Kelowna example
A Kelowna house on FortisBC electricity, heated by baseboards, gets a NEEP cold-climate multi-split. FortisBC pays $4,000. Adding attic insulation can add the $300 two-upgrade bonus.
Winter in Kelowna
Kelowna's average January low from 2015 to 2024 was -3.2°C, and the coldest reading was -24.0°C. FortisBC asks for a heat pump sized to keep 22°C at the local design temperature, not a fixed -5°C. For Kelowna, that is a colder target than BC Hydro's, so expect a slightly larger unit.
Homes in Kelowna
The 2021 Census counted 62,210 households in Kelowna. About 65% own and 43% live in a detached house (26,450 homes). Of all households, 8,205 own a detached house built before 1981.
BC Hydro or FortisBC: check your bill
Look at who sends your power bill. If it is FortisBC, use FortisBC's heat pump rebate: $4,000 whole home, $1,500 partial, and a $300 bonus for adding a second upgrade. BC Hydro's limited-time bonus does not apply. If your bill comes from BC Hydro, use BC Hydro's rules instead. FortisBC also pays income-qualified electric customers up to $12,000 for a central ducted whole-home system.
Only for homes replacing electric heat
FortisBC's electric heat pump rebate is for homes that are heated by electricity today. If you heat with natural gas, it does not cover the switch. The heat pump must be NEEP cold-climate certified, and a single mini-split only qualifies in homes of 1,200 square feet or less. The contractor must do a CSA F280-12 heat load calculation.
Whole home or partial
For the $4,000 whole-home rebate, the system must keep 22°C at your local design temperature. If it covers part of the home, the partial rebate is $1,500. Add another eligible home renovation upgrade and you may get a $300 two-upgrade bonus.

Is the BC Hydro bonus open to Kelowna?

I heat with FortisBC gas in Kelowna. What can I get?
FortisBC's electric heat pump rebate is for replacing electric heat. If your income qualifies, the CleanBC Energy Savings Program pays for gas-to-heat-pump switches.
Does FortisBC need a special contractor?

Can I get a rebate if I heat with gas?
Not from the utility rebate. It is only for replacing electric heat. Income-qualified households can use the CleanBC Energy Savings Program, which pays up to $13,000 at Level 1 for central or 3+ head systems.
