How the amount is set
Each person's grant is different. It depends on your income, your marital status and your address. The two maximums are for 2026 and are cut down by income testing. You send in your 2025 Canada Revenue Agency Notice of Assessment, and the grant is based on your net income.
Income limits
You will not be eligible if your net income is above $154,206 for a single person or $217,470 for a married or common-law couple. Below those lines the grant shrinks as income rises. The Yukon government has a calculator on its site so you can estimate your grant before you apply.
Apply every year
The government says Yukoners must apply every year. Applications opened July 1, 2026. You can apply on the online portal, in person at the Income Support Unit in Whitehorse, or by mail to Pioneer Utility Grant (PUG) (H-4), Health and Social Services, Government of Yukon, Box 2703, Whitehorse, Yukon Y1A 2C6. Email is accepted in 2026 but is not secure.
Help line
Phone 867-667-8772 or toll-free 1-800-661-0408, extension 4, or write to pioneerutilitygrant@yukon.ca. Use it to report an address change too.
What we did not read
The grant page also has tabs for eligibility and the deadline, which did not show in our read. We will not state the age, residency or deadline rules until we read them. Check the Eligibility and Application deadline tabs on the page before you apply.
Lower the heating bill
The grant helps pay for heat. Insulation, windows and heat pumps lower what you need. See the Yukon pages below for rebates.
Why you apply every year
Income, marital status and address can change, so the government resets the grant each year. If you moved or your income dropped since last year, your amount may be different. Use the calculator before you apply so there are no surprises.
Whitehorse and outside
The two maximums are different because the cost of heating is different. Check whether your address is inside Whitehorse city limits. If you are unsure, ask the helpline before you send in the form.
Send secure documents
The government says email is not a secure way to send personal information, and prefers the online portal, an in-person visit to the Income Support Unit in Whitehorse or the mail. Your Notice of Assessment includes personal details, so use a secure route.
Report an address change
If you move, tell the helpline. The grant is based on your address, so a move can change the amount and where any payment goes.
Couples and singles
The two income lines differ because the grant looks at your marital status. A married or common-law couple has a higher line than a single person. If your status changed this year, such as a death in the family, tell the helpline when you apply so that your grant is worked out the right way.
