Window and Door Rebates in Maple Ridge

Maple Ridge has one of the highest ownership rates in Metro Vancouver, and many houses have a basement suite. The window rebate can cover both, as long as each suite has its own meter.

A house with a suite

A main floor with 11 windows and two doors, plus a basement suite with 4 windows and its own entry door, is 18 openings. At $100 each that pays $1,800. Both parts count because the program allows a detached house with a secondary suite when each is separately metered.

Maple Ridge's homes in numbers

The 2021 Census counted 33,110 households in Maple Ridge. About 79% own and 53% live in detached houses. Only 17% are in apartments. Of the households, 9,480 (29%) live in homes built before 1981, and 5,160 are owner-occupied detached houses from that period.

Colder nights than the coast

Maple Ridge's average January low from 2015 to 2024 was 0.1°C, and the coldest day was -19.6°C. That is deeper than Burnaby or Surrey, since the city is farther inland near the mountains. Windows that leak make cold nights feel colder.

Secondary suites and acreage

BC Hydro accepts a detached home with a secondary suite when both are individually metered. Garages, workshops and outbuildings are not eligible. On a larger lot, keep the house windows separate from any shop windows on the invoice, so the claim is clean.

Counting and certification

One rough opening is one opening. A bay window is one. Each unit needs a U-factor of 1.22 W/m2-K or lower and a listing from CSA, Intertek, Labtest, QAI or NFRC. Skylights are excluded.

Timing and paperwork

You have six months from the invoice date to apply, and the application needs the invoice and a photo of the manufacturer label on each unit. BC Hydro publishes a window and door checklist and a sample invoice. Ask the contractor to fill in the invoice the way the sample does, listing each window or door separately. A vague invoice is the usual reason a claim is sent back.

Stacking a second upgrade

BC Hydro pays a bonus of up to $2,000 when you finish more than one eligible upgrade, but its page does not give a formula, so ask when you apply. FortisBC lists a $300 second-upgrade bonus or an EnerGuide improvement bonus of $750 to $2,000. Windows pair naturally with insulation, since both cut heat loss through the building envelope.

If your income is lower

BC Hydro sends income-qualified customers to the CleanBC Better Homes Energy Savings Program instead, and the two cannot be combined. The 2026 program document lists no insulation or window rebates, so the free Energy Conservation Assistance Program is the route to ask about.

How to claim in Maple Ridge

  1. Confirm the home is electric-heated and at least 12 months old.
  2. Get quotes that list the U-factor of every window and door.
  3. Photograph each label on installation day.
  4. Keep the invoice and apply within six months.
  5. Add insulation to the same application to check the bonus.
