What solar and battery rebates pay in Coquitlam
We re-read BC Hydro's solar and battery rebate page on October 3, 2026. The battery rebate is higher if you enroll it in Peak Saver. Every rebate is capped at 50% of what you paid.

How much sun Coquitlam gets
Coquitlam averaged about 3.21 peak sun hours a day from 2020 to 2024. Hillside homes facing south can do better than the average; homes on north slopes or under tall trees can do much worse. As a rough guide, a 5 kW system here would make about 4,687 kWh a year, using 3.21 sun hours times 365 days and assuming 80% of the panel rating reaches your panel after losses. Your installer's design for your own roof will be more accurate.
Most Coquitlam households own, so most can apply
The 2021 Census counted 55,945 households in Coquitlam. About 69% own (38,795 households) and about 31% rent (17,155), a higher share of owners than in Burnaby (about 60%) or Vancouver (about 45%) in the same table. A detached house is the home for 19,700 households, or 35%. BC Hydro's solar and battery rebates are for owners of single-family homes, duplexes, townhomes and mobile homes on its grid, so a larger share of Coquitlam homes can use them than in the neighbouring cities.
Homes built before 1991 and the roof
The Census counts 7,305 owner-occupied detached homes in Coquitlam built before 1981 and 4,055 built from 1981 to 1990, so about 11,360 in all are more than thirty years old. The roof is the part of the house the panels depend on. Ask each installer to check its age and condition and to say in the quote whether it should be replaced first. If it will need replacing within a few years, doing it before the panels go on can save you from paying to remove and reinstall them.
Burke Mountain and other community offers
BC Hydro runs community-based offers for select postal codes, and Burke Mountain is one of them. The offers we read list top-ups for heat pumps, EV chargers and appliances, not for solar or batteries. Check your postal code in BC Hydro's tool before you assume a top-up applies, and keep the solar and battery rebates on this page separate in your budget.
Shade is the real limit
With 3.21 peak sun hours, Coquitlam's average is fine. Trees, hills and next-door buildings are what decide how much your own roof makes. A good quote includes a shade report with month-by-month output. If a third of the roof is shaded in winter, expect the yearly total to come in under the rough guide above.
Battery first: outage backup
A battery stores power for when the grid goes down. The rebate is $500 per kWh, so a 10 kWh battery that cost at least $10,000 can reach $5,000 with Peak Saver. Without Peak Saver, the battery must be paired with solar and the rebate stops at $1,500.
The 50% cap and the order of steps
Every rebate is limited to 50% of the installed cost. You must hire a contractor in the Home Performance Contractor Network and submit a self-generation application to BC Hydro before you install. Wait for technical acceptance. After install, send the final inspection documents and paid invoices. BC Hydro pays within 60 days of approval.
Tesla Powerwall is not eligible
Tesla's Powerwall 2 and 3, Tesla inverters and Tesla chargers are not eligible for BC Hydro or CleanBC rebates. The only exception is an application made before March 12, 2025.

Yes, but only if you enroll the battery in Peak Saver. Then the battery-only rebate can reach $5,000.
Is the Tesla Powerwall eligible?
No. Tesla batteries get $0 from BC Hydro and CleanBC.
