What is open for Fort McMurray homes in 2026
We re-read each program page on October 3, 2026. Alberta has no provincial home rebates, so the help is local financing and a few small offers.
CEIP financing
Red Deer and Wood Buffalo (Fort McMurray) are not on Alberta's residential CEIP list.
Utility rebates
We found no primary source for a current ENMAX, ATCO, EPCOR or FortisAlberta heat pump or solar rebate, so we show none. Ask your utility before you buy.
Federal Oil to Heat Pump Affordability
The federal program for oil-heated homes stopped taking Alberta applications after July 31, 2026.
Canada Greener Homes Grant and Loan
The grant's document deadline was December 31, 2025 and the loan cannot approve new applications.
Greener Homes Affordability Program
Alberta is not among the provinces taking part, as of August 31, 2026.

Housing in Fort McMurray
Fort McMurray has 25,935 households. About 48% live in detached houses, 10% in row homes and 5% in semi-detached homes, and 3% in buildings of five or more storeys. Owners are 67% and renters 33%. Only about 21% of homes were built before 1981, the lowest share among our Alberta cities, so many have newer construction.
Why nothing is listed
Alberta has no provincial home rebates in 2026, the City is not on the CEIP list, and we found no primary source for a current utility rebate. An empty page is more useful than a guess. If your electricity provider has started an offer, it should appear on its own site, and we will add it when we can read it.
Winters
The average January low in Fort McMurray is -18.8°C and the coldest day in our records reached -44.7°C. In weather like that, any heat pump quote should state the temperature at which the unit still delivers its rated heat. Ask for the number in writing.
What ended
The federal oil-to-heat-pump program stopped taking Alberta applications after July 31, 2026. The Greener Homes grant and loan are closed, and Alberta is not in the Greener Homes Affordability Program.
Where to look
Check Wood Buffalo's own website and your electricity provider for new offers, and see the Alberta pages for cities that do have programs, such as Calgary, Edmonton and Red Deer.
Questions to ask any installer
With no program to lean on, the quote is the whole story. Ask for the model, the rated heating capacity at the coldest temperature the installer designs for, and what backup heat remains. Ask who handles warranty claims and where the outdoor unit goes so snow does not bury it. Get at least two quotes and keep them, because they are your evidence if a program opens later.
Reading older and newer homes
The Census counts a small share of Fort McMurray's homes as built before 1981, so many are newer than in Edmonton or Calgary. Newer homes tend to be tighter, which changes what to do first. Have the house tested for air leakage before assuming it needs more insulation, and ask a contractor to explain what the test says in plain terms.
