BC Windows Guide 2026: Double vs Triple Pane
Short answer: BC Hydro and FortisBC pay $100 per window or door, up to $2,000, if each unit has a U-factor of 1.22 W/m²·K or less and a licensed contractor installs it. The City of Vancouver is excluded. Windows are pricey for the energy they save, so replace them when they're failing, and do insulation first if you can.
Double vs triple pane
Triple-pane windows usually reach lower U-factors and feel warmer in cold climates, but cost more. In mild coastal areas, a good double-pane low-E window often meets the 1.22 rule. Check the label: the U-factor, not the pane count, decides the rebate.
Frame materials
- Vinyl: most common and usually lowest cost.
- Fiberglass: stiffer and stable in heat and cold; usually costs more.
- Wood or clad: nice look, more upkeep.
