BC Insulation Guide 2026: Types and Rebates

By Sam Menard · Updated September 26, 2026

Short answer: For most BC attics, blown-in fiberglass or cellulose is the go-to. Spray foam is best for small, tricky spots like rim joists. BC Hydro (electric heat) and FortisBC pay by area and R-value added: attic up to $900, walls or basement up to $1,200.

Total cap: Across all areas, BC Hydro pays up to $5,500 for insulation, and doing several upgrades together can add a bonus of up to $2,000. An HPCN member must do the work, and you apply within six months of the invoice (BC Hydro, checked September 27, 2026).
