Solar panels on a tiled house roof

Short answer: Yes, you can claim BC Hydro's solar, battery, heat pump and heat pump water heater rebates on the same home, but each has its own rules. The heat pump and water heater rebates are only for replacing electric equipment. Real totals depend on your system sizes and costs, so the worked example below shows how the math actually works.

Applications are not open yet. Ottawa says they open in early 2027, and that you can add this rebate on top of provincial ones.

The 2026 BC Hydro amounts

Worked example: an electrically heated home

Say you add a 6 kW solar system, a 10 kWh battery enrolled in Peak Saver, a whole-home heat pump replacing baseboards, and a heat pump water heater replacing an electric tank. If each cost is high enough that the 50% caps don't bite:

A smaller battery gets less: a 5 kWh battery is worth up to $2,500, not $5,000.

Heated with gas? Income-qualified?

If you heat with gas, oil or propane, BC Hydro's heat pump rebate doesn't apply. Income-qualified households can get CleanBC Energy Savings Program rebates instead: up to $13,000, $7,000 or $3,500 (by income level) for a heat pump, and up to $3,500 for a heat pump water heater. You can't claim two programs for the same heat pump or water heater.

The gotcha: installers often do solar or heat pumps, not both. Ask each one which rebates their part of the job qualifies for, in writing.
