SMUD Rebates 2026: Heat Pump $1,000 to $3,000 and More

Every SMUD rebate at a glance

• Heat pump HVAC: $3,000 variable-stage and $2,000 two-stage (15.2 SEER2 minimum) replacing gas; $1,000 upgrading from electric.
• Heat pump water heater: $3,000 (50 gallons or more), $3,500 (65 or more), $4,000 (80 or more) replacing gas; $1,000 replacing electric. NEEA Tier III or IV, UEF 2.87 or higher.
• Go Electric (panel, subpanel, circuit): up to $4,000, with a gas-to-electric conversion required for the subpanel and circuit.
• Seal and insulate: up to $3,000 through a Home Performance Program contractor.
• EV charger (Charge@Home): up to $850: charger up to $100, circuit sharing device up to $200, circuit installation up to $750.
• Battery: $300 per kWh up to $6,000 from September 23, 2026 ($500 per kWh up to $10,000 for projects submitted by September 22 and enrolled by December 31).
• Induction cooking: $750 from gas, $100 from electric. Smart thermostat: $50 at the SMUD Energy Store.

What it costs

SMUD publishes median installed prices from its own customers: $18,804 for a gas-to-electric heat pump and $6,220 for a gas-to-electric heat pump water heater, before rebates. See Sacramento rebates for the full pages.

How to claim

Heat pumps, water heaters and insulation are claimed by a contractor in the SMUD Contractor Network, who submits the rebate for you. The EV rebate has its own application and wants the vehicle registered at your SMUD address in your name. One Charge@Home rebate per account for life.
